Morning Stardust :) I had the same exact thoughts during hell week (1st week of the quit). I said the same thing more or less.. I WANT TO SMOKE..I CHOOSE NOT TO SMOKE! It was and is still my mantra as well as N.O.P.E. (Not One Puff Ever) You WILL get past this and I know it's so hard but that's what the tools are for and that's what this site is for.. Hold on to us sweetie.. We're here for you! :) Monica58 My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/31/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 16 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 326 Amount Saved: $144 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 18 Mins: 45 Seconds: 18

Hi Windy and N2k, You guys are right and since you both have been quit for so long I am gonna trust you on this and remember I won't always think like this. I like that - "I CAN smoke if I want to but I choose not to." Hi all, What is driving me crazy is having two thoughts running thru my head at the same time. I WANT TO QUIT!!! - I WANT TO SMOKE!!! Aaaarrrggghhh! I'm always afraid the second thought is going to win the battle. Hi Stardust, I work the swing shift so don't get here in a timely manner, but I know just where you are. I think that we get stuck in that revolving door and can't quite see our way out when we are detoxing, but as those earlier have said, it's YOUR choice. Remember when you were smoking all you wanted was to quit? Well, NOW YOU HAVE!!! Hold onto that, and believe me, the time passes faster than you can believe at the moment. And people are ALWAYS capable of believing 2 opposite things, like 'Out of sight, out of mind' vs 'Absence makes the heart grow fonder' and the like. So don't feel too badly if you think 2 things at once, just know that this whole quit thing is OUR choice, and we CHOOSE to be SMOKE FREE!! Congratulations on your SPECTACULAR 3 days! It's probably the bravest thing we will ever do, so keep on kickin Ash! And do please remember to REWARD yourself! It's sooo important. And you sooooo deserve it! Well...Star....You are on Day 3....At this point you are probably thinking about cigarettes almost every waking moment. You want to smoke because you are going through withdrawal (And you DO go through withdrawal whether you use NRT's or not) You do not want to smoke, or else you will be addicted for the rest of your life. If you smoke, you will go into withdrawal every time you put one out......making you HAVE to smoke again and again. If you QUIT....you will be free to enjoy your life (smoke-free) and you WILL NOT think about smoking every waking moment! It gets better all the time...you can do it! Stardust, You have the power to decide if it wins or not. You hold the control. Know that your not alone, many have felt just as you do now. The first week is tough but you can get through it. Focus on distracting yourself and sneaking in great rewards for staying smoke free! Keep us posted, let us help you get through today. Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team

She's right~you're in withdrawal so just push through it. You can change that thought pattern though. I want to smoke! I CAN smoke if I want to! I choose not to! N. O. P. E.! Give it try. Stay stong. That persistant nag goes away eventually if you don't smoke. All the best~ 2 My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 452 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,964 Amount Saved: $2260 Life Gained: Days: 42 Hrs: 23 Mins: 39 Seconds: 57

I know how you feel Stardust..my heart goes out to you. but, it is what we all have to go through in order to be nicotine free. Embrace how you feel and let it be a stark reminder of how horrible this addiction is. It will get better if you don;'t smoke. Congrats on your first week smoke free;;;yipee!
