Bobby, Welcome to the group. I just joined about a week ago. My quit day is tomorrow. Yikes!! Like you I have made several attempts. A Dr did tell me when I'm ready to quit, I will quit. I'm ready!! I am trying a new pill called Chantix. It is supposed to be helpful although there are no magic way to do this. capp

Bobby: Two days and counting! Way to go! You're doing it. Climbing the walls, eh? Well, when you're up there, make yourself useful and paint the ceiling. Ha! You can do this! You're proving it to yourself every moment you tell the nicotine monster "NO". Please, please, though, focus on the positive -- the very good reasons you're doing this. Don't get sucked into what you think you're missing. That's dangerous thinking. Celebrate two days! On to three! Keep the Faith! Hi Bobby: Welcome to this site and especially to the wonderful world of non-smokers. I, too was told 3 1/2 years ago the I was pre-cancerous for oral cancer. Stupidly, I only quit smoking long enough to no longer feel the stitches. I even asked the oral surgeon if he could put permanent stitches inside my cheek as a constant reminder. Anyway, this time is different. I know that I dodged a bullet then and I pray I haven't waited too long, but it's never too late to quit and stay quit. The reason it's different this time is that I absolutely refuse to allow myself to feel that I'm depriving myself of something. It's that sense of wallowing in self-pity, that I've really given up my best friends that makes it so damned hard to stay quit. Honestly, this time I simply switched that mindset, so I can't feel deprived. Whenever I get a craving (and in my third month, not nearly so often), it is a message to me that my addiction was so strong, it's still trying to talk to me. That tells me all I need to know about whether I've made the right decision. I hope that helps. I don't know if I'm expressing it well, but it has made a very big difference in my attitude. I know I will never smoke again. Ya gotta believe! We'll all help in any way we can. Go get'em! BOBBY: Day 1 is in the books -- hurray! Day 2 coming up and before you know it, a week, then two weeks and a month. And you'll know that you CAN slay the evil nicotine dragon! Have faith -- This Faith knows you can do it! Let us know how we can help. We've all been there -- this first week is tough, but you're worth it. I have been in what I call "dental hell" this entire year and it's because of my smoking. You would not believe the problems I've had with my teeth and gums. Remember what your dentist told you -- he (or she) is not kidding. That's serious stuff. I was told the same thing. Consider it a shot across the bow. It got your attention and that's good. You're suffering now in the early stages of your quit, but it will improve. Hang tough, even if you think it's just by your fingernails! Keep us posted on how you're doing and let us help. Bobby: Big gold star for you! Six days and number seven almost here. See? Your magic one-week mark is just around the corner. You have done an amazing job with your quit. Only we who have been there can truly understand and appreciate the enormity of the task. It's been a tough, tough week, but please give yourself huge pats on the back for your accomplishment. Then give yourself a big reward -- you've earned it! Stay true to your NRT program and most importantly, stay true to your commitment to yourself and keep reminding yourself why you've made this great decision. Keep us posted on week two, ok? Hi Everyone. This is my first post. I just wanted to wish Bobby good luck. I smoked 2 packs a day for 30 years and used the new drug Chantix to help me quit. It has been so easy. I only took it for 1 month. My cravings are about 0. When I do have cravings they seem to be when I am tired. Good luck to everyone on continued success. Bobby, *looking up at the ceiling*...How are you doing up there....are you ready to come down yet?? Don't make me come up there to talk to ya!!! I'm afraid of heights!!!! Just checking on you today. See how your doing. What a great you are giving yourself for Christmas. You will beat this addiction, and don't worry about the nicoteen in the patches...I'm using the patches as well, and they are working for me....but it's not a process without wall climbing! But you know what...you really are getting good at climbing!!!
