Allen Carr dies

He will long be remembered for writing the book that was the catalyst to many a successful quit, (including yours-truly.) Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family & friends. (I wonder if they know how often his name has been mentioned on this site and others...) mc My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/31/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 455 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,830 Amount Saved: $1820 Life Gained: Days: 44 Hrs: 7 Mins: 17 Seconds: 47

I read Allen Carr's book after I quit and it did put a new persctive on my quit. It is ironic that he would die of lung cancer after helping so many. That just goes to show that smoking kills, it doesn't care who. Ros.. you were even more inspiration in those early days of my quit than Allen Carr. You taught so much about how to get through those rough moments and days. You also taught how to take my life back. I am eternally grateful to you. I'm still here and you are one of the main reasons. Thanks! Hope all is well with you. Hi, Ros. Long time, no see. :) About 2 months into my quit I went to the bookstore and perused Mr. Carr's book that I'd heard so much about here. I was quited astounded and pleased to learn that I was applying his principles. It gave me a bit more hope that this would really work. Rest in peace, Mr. Carr. You have certainly earned it and your legacy and work will continue on. Honor his memory, folks. Keep up the great quits! Ros it is so good to hear from you again and I hope you and your family are well. I often think of the years that I smoked (58) and wonder why I have escaped the real illnesses that go with smoking damage to the lungs. I have only been quit for some 22 months and I am a year older than Allen so I was a real shock to read this news about his death. Thank you Ros you have always been one of my guiding lights in this war on nicotine addiction. It seems Mr. Carr was put on this earth for a purpose as he used his unique perspective and insight to its fullest potential to help so many. I read his book some time after I'd begun my quit then passed it on. From reading that book, three people that I thought would never quit smoking did it and they've never looked back. My sincere appreciation to Mr. Carr and my condolences to his family. He lives on in the hearts of those he's helped and will continue to help with the influence and knowledge he's left behind. Ros! So very good to hear from you. I, too, read Allen Carr's book after quitting. There were many good ideas for quitting and staying quit throughout the book. He will be missed. Not cravin', never cavin'. Hi all, It has been a very long time since I last visited here. I rarely think about smoking or quitting these days, but just now I heard the sad news on the radio that brought it back into my thoughts. Allen Carr has just died of lung cancer aged 72. He quit smoking (100 a day) 23 years ago, but it is being said that being continually exposed to passive smoke in his clinics may have led to the disease. I have never read his books, but I know that many of the key principles are quoted regularly here at SSC and were a huge help to me in making my quit stick. It's ironic that someone whose messages even "second hand" can help people to quit has possibly died because of "second hand" smoke. RIP Mr Carr, you will never be forgotten until the world's last cigarette has turned to ash. ROS!!! Great to see you again. I heard about Allen Carr. I only read one of his books after I quit. Like you, I found the keys quoted here at SSC to be my inspiration. Thanks for the kind words on my Stats thread. Yes, I remember Rome as if it was yesterday. A great reward for us both. If you are going to be in the Carcassonne area of France, let us know. (Lollypop says 'Hi' to you both.)
