Day 6 Snowbound and Stir Crazy

17 years ago 0 53 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi Guys!! The last couple days have been hard as far as cravings go. I'm blaming it on our recent double-blizzard-whammy here in Colorado and that getting out and about has been a chore, to say the least. I've been on vacation and am not due back til next Tuesday and oddly enough, I'm looking forward to it. I'm hoping that my work routine will distract me and help settle these strong cravings. I want to ask, has anyone gone through this where the cravings seemed manageable at first and then came on strong like this? Tomorrow is my 7th smoke free day and I guess I thought I'd be more out of the woods than I am now. I'm using the Commit lozenge, 4mg. I wonder if I should ask my doctor if it's too late to start on Chantix or Zyban...or add some other NRT to what I'm using now? Any ideas? Thanks guys, for your responses! I really do enjoy how good I feel and it just annoys the cr*p out of me that these cravings pop up like they do. I've noticed that they're strongest at night and no, don't ask me to go to bed at 6 pm! :p I'm just glad to know that this isn't an unusual thing even though the first few days weren't as bad as I thought they'd be. I imagine it's a last desparate attempt on the part of the "unconscious habit" fighting to stay alive. It's a clever little booger, isn't it? ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/23/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 280 Amount Saved: $70 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 16 Mins: 25 Seconds: 29

Mercy: I know -- go make a bunch of snow angels!! That ought to keep your hands and mind busy! You know, the cravings do pop up sometimes when you least expect them. That's part of what makes this damn addiction so insidious. You can NEVER drop your guard and feel that you have the cravings licked. You will get a craving or two or three -- it's part of quitting. But remember that every craving is a reminder to you of just how badly addicted you are -- if you look at it that way, it's easier to tell the nicodemon to go to hell! NOPE -- Not One Puff Ever! That's the ONLY way to make this work. You can do it!!! We're all behind you. (I'd make snow angels if I could, but here in the Seattle area, we don't have the means. Make one for me, ok??) Keep the faith. Hi, Mercy - The nicotine should be completely out of your system by Day 3, so everthing after that should be head-related. The withdrawal symptoms will pass, I promise... peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 60 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,048 Amount Saved: $330 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 16 Mins: 4 Seconds: 25

Mercy, if you feel the need for more help by all means ask your doctor. Its more important for you to stay quit than to start again because you didn't ask. I used wellbutrin but if you have chantix available where you are they've said really good things about it on this site. Congratulations on making it through hell week!

You're right, Mercy74 - I think you'll feel a lot better when you start work again. You'll be busier, so the cravings may become less apparent. The beginning of a quit is the most difficult time. It does get better, I promise. It is soooo worth it. Put up a good fight now and reap the rewards later! Sending you bags of resolve against those nasty cravings! Seen your dilemma in the news! Wow, you guys got it good---twice in a row! Keep being strong. These cravings will be around for awhile. They seem to come in waves. Just remember NOPE and ride it out. You are stronger than the desire. Keep distractions close by and be prepared! Wishing you the best! Hope the weather clears up soon! :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 113 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,692 Amount Saved: $904 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 17 Mins: 0 Seconds: 59

Boy do I remember those days. They are the ones that did me in. I was not perpared for those strong of craves. They came from know where and I just didn't know what to do with them. I think you coming here and asking about them tells me you don't want to give in. Please don't. Just take it minute by minute. This last time I put a rubber band around my wrist and when the crave came I would snap it. Believe me you don't want to snap it very often ;) I really hate to say this, but I am a repeater and I would hate to see you have to start all over again. Just know the crave will pass and it does get better. You are the only that can stop yourself from smoking. I do understand that crave and how powerful it is. I wish I could make it go away. Stay stong. Mercy, Unfortunately there aren't any magic pills to quitting. You are going through Hell week and they don't call it that for nothing. Each craving you get through makes you that much stronger for the next. Don't give up now. You are almost through hell week. My mom lives in Colorado and I keep telling her to send us some snow (GA). We haven't had even a flurry in years. Keep yourself busy, drink a lot of water, and don't forget to take some really deep breaths. All of this will pass and you will be so glad you didn't give in. BTW.. I quit cold turkey so I really can't advise you on the other methods but I can tell you people around here quit all kinds of ways. NOPE is the secret to success. Not One Puff Ever. Hang on tight!
