Hi Melinda, Yeh I always get panicky now if I drink. I don't drink now. Well I havne't for six months. Don't know if I ever will again. It's not a big part of my life and not something I'm missing. I do get drunk very easily so I always had to be careful as my threshold was very low. Just wanted to let you know you're not alone. I think any kind of intoxicant will make you paranoid and bring on an attack. Everyone's different though.

How about this one. Most of the time when I drink I don't even get drunk because my panic is in rare form. And to get drunk I have to drink and drink and drink and even still I'm still always nervous and on edge. And what sucks even more is I have panice attacks well i'm drunk or buzzing... Ever have that happen?

Hi, Smae_boat here. Thanks for the replies both Melanie and Sky they are very helpful. I am not on medication and I don't have any alergies except wool which is unrelated. I have been diagnosed with the panic disorder so I am sure that is all it is. It's just that my chest feels a little tighter and my mouth is always very dry and I feel very tingly all day after a few drinks (not even many drinks). I guess I will stop drinking or go back to only 1 or 2 a night and keep that as my ceiling amount when I go out. Fortunately I don't need drinks to be social, I just prefer it. I will read your Test more closely and follow that in this event and that might answer my questions. Thanks again.

Right on Sky! Great reply :). Couple of quick questions Same_Boat; are you on any medication(s)? Do you have any allergies that you may know of? Reason why I am asking these questions is because most medication counter-reacts to the intake of alcohol. Also, have you been diagnosed with panic/anxiety or any other type of panic disorder? Hi there Same Boat. Yeh I can completely relate to what you're saying. I'm really sensitive to any intoxicant. Get really drunk very easily. Only takes one beer to get me plastered haha. I've never been much of a drinker anyway plus I'm really small so this would all come into consideration too. Anyway I've pretty much stopped drinking because of panic. Doesn't really effect me, not drinking. But if enjoying a casual drink is something you really wanna do, go for it I say! The only way to really get back to normal is to treat your drinking and hangovers as 'exposure work'. Go slow though, don't rush it. It will take time. But you'll become very aware of your body's reactions with both panic symptoms and alcohol/hangover symptoms. I know with myself that if I had more than one beer I'd most certainly have a hangover the next day. Maybe this is anxiety related or just my physical make up. I'd say a bit of both though. Fatigue will always bring on panic. So that's another reason you're getting panic attacks from hangovers. I highly recommend you start the "Panic Program" here on the site. It's got some wonderful advice on how to do exposure work. You can apply it to anything, even a hangover. It's horrible having a panic attack while you're body is recovering and experiencing symptoms of something separate! I suggest you gauge the fear from one 1 to 10. Ten being the most fearful, think you're gonna die feeling. Keep the fear in check when you're panicking by giving each moment a fear rating number. Keep doing this until you get it down to about 1 or 2. I do this everytime I'm having an attack. Gives me something to 'do' with the panic. Which is quite calming. Oh and breathing slowly from your stomach, not your chest, is best for panic. I think anxiety sufferers are pretty sensitive to alcohol and the rest. So, fear not, your reaction is pretty normal. Hi, I'm new. I am just wondering if anyone knows why I can't handle hangovers. I don't even drink very much, but as a guy in my mid 20's I like having 3 or 4 beers out at night. The next day, I choke when I eat or drink cos I am super sensitive to my breathing and body functions. If i sit and think for a minute, I scare the hell out of myself and feel like I am going to die. I feel that my body will just give up because I have abused it with a little alcohol. I never take frugs or smoke because it is too scarey to think that my body will just die on the spot from misuse. Does anyone suffer from these hangover problems. I don't even drink at all now cos the hangover makes my mind believe so much that I will stop breathing etc. Is this common ? Does anyone know of a solution because I like having atleast a couple of drinks. To stop drinking casually is really boring to me. Thanks everyone. Once I get a handle on this I will try and reply to your messages.
