Wow I thought it got easier as time went by but for me yestrday was the hardest. I almost slipped but I couldnt find any smokes. Thank God i got rid of everything. Today on the other hand hasnt been so bad. I am not thinking about it as often as before. I Am afraid though when I go back to work on friday, Its going to be difficult. I have a job that is stressfull and I am out and about, so i cant just lock myself in the office with no smokes. I get nervous just thinking about it. Skinhound, We are so with you on this. Yes, the first two weeks is hard, they aren't called hell and heck week because they are a walk in the park, but you are almost through the 1st week, you can do this. Remember your reasons for quitting and keep those handy (even if you have to write them down and carry them with you). Also, there are some great posts recently about a different way to look at the long term quit. Rumage around in the threads, some of them were from today. The change you are making in your life is a significantly positive one. Remember, anything worth doing isn't always going to be easy. Hang tough, I'm here for you. Skinhound, You are on about the hardest day or few days in my opinion. Anywhere from 3-7 days is really hard. Next week will be hard to, but don't despair. The addiction will like you to believe you are going to feel this way forever. But, trust me, you WON'T! It will get better . Hi Skinhound - Congrats on 6 days (yeppers - some days just kick us in the gizzard...but they do get better) I know we say that all the time...but they really do get better. I guess you might need afew extra tools in your kit for work. After I had a rotten day at work, I was reminded to take short breaks (just like we did when we smoked). Lately - I've gone to tootsie pops (cankers are abit of a hazard and I haven't seen the dentist recently). Sunflower seeds are probably healthier. I always have a bottle of water in the car and/or green tea. Good luck! Way to go Skinhound. 6 smoke free days! That's fantastic. Nearly through the first week. Remember, don't look too far ahead. Take each situation as it comes and remember to breathe deep. That really helps. And post here often! Yup, that's why it's nototriously called Hell Week. Have a good think what might help you at work - and put these coping mechanisms in place. Keeping busy should keep you distracted, you know. How about mints, water, a few minutes to relax your body, some post-it notes to yourself on what a wonderful thing you are doing. Just - DON'T SMOKE!!! You'll get through this. Keep focused. Good luck, Skinhound. We're right there with you. I hear you loud and clear! The first three weeks are very challenging, for sure. But look at you. You have gone 6 days without! Did you think you could go that long? Probably not. I never thought I could.... Don't focus on down the road...concentrate on the here and now...one day at a time! I know about job stress and the out and about, unable to isolate yourself...take along mints, gum and sunflower seeds. The sunflower seeds have kept me quit (cost me crown on my tooth, but hey...that's nuthin'!) My job often involves a lot of driving and the seeds are distracting and keep me busy. I am also often interacting with the smoking public and it helps there too. Stay strong! Hi ~ Take it five minutes at a time. Little bits at a time. Read the quote of the day today - inch by inch it's a cinch. Make sure you are taking the time to reward for everyday you have not smoked. It's important to treat yourself extra special. It keeps you focused and keeps you going when you are tired of fighting off ole nic. Be prepared to never let your guard down and stay tough!
