JenK, that's the truth, real 'crisises' that happen get our full attention, and so we are concentrating on something else besides the panic. I can go out there in the yard when the horses are crazed from 50mph winds and branches are crashing to the ground and tin is flying off the roof, and do what needs to be done without a problem. But let me get alone driving when I have nothing to think about but panic, and I can bring on anx in a heartbeat! Maybe we just need to have more crisises to get our minds off of this panic! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi there! Its so weird, yesterday I was thinking about the same subject! When something real happens, I am calm. Like last week for instance, four horses got loose and were running around the stable yard. It was just me and my instructor trying to catch them. It was a very dangerous and stressful situation but I was so calm! And at work when the cash register crashes, I dont' panic at all. I think this is because we are momentarily distracted from ourselves and realize that someone on the "outside" world needs us. Also, maybe we "practice" so much inside our fight or flight response that when we actually have a situation where it is appropriate to use it, we know what to do!! :) LOL Jen

This is a really interesting subject. I actually think I might be obsessed with panic...I know I get worried about having panic attacks but I obsess about them all the time rather than them actually happening to me, like i'm just waiting for the next one to come along...or more like death even. Well, just before xmas we were on our way to some friends for pre xmas drinks and I was really worrying about the whole event to the point of distraction. Anyway, I fell down the steps in front of my house which was a really shock and really hurt. Well, the panic just lifted, we went to our friends as normal, although I had my arm in an ice pack and then we went to the casualty department about midnight and I didn't feel anxious atall. I therefore think that the arm took my mind off the panic and if I could only do that all the time I know I would feel great. Do you think this proves that I am obsessive about panic. Obsesive compulsive disorder runs in my family and maybe this is the way it has come out in me.

I am same way when something real stressful is actually happening....(like the bale of hay falling) I keep my wits about me and get through it. Its a day or so afterwards, sometimes as long as a week before anxieyt kicks in like an after effect. I am obsessed with being anxious. Especially when I am home laying in bed already feeling on edge. I totally over analyze everything I could have done to have brought it on.

I don't get it either!! But I can soo relate to that. When we're faced with a real situation, with real cause for concern we just don't panic! I reckon it's because we fear the unknown. When a situation is real, it happened, it's over, we know it. Just the other day I was writing with a lead pencil. Then I started panicing about how I could get lead poisoning from it!! lol theres always something new to get worked up over. I can relate to your numb thumb!

Hi Sky! I'm still on the obssesed with panic thing, although a physical obssession will jump in occasionally just to break up the monontony! LOL! Yesterday one of my thumbs felt numb, gosh, can't my mind come up with anything better than that? Yeah, the farm is a great distraction! I have never had an attack in my yard or out at the barn. I don't know why. Sometimes when I have one I'll go out there and I will feel better. I don't know if it's the animals or the physical labor out there that helps me. And bad things do happen out there, the yesterday we were unloading 100 bales of hay into the barn and the wind blew down a big tree almost on top of us all! Scared the **** outa me, but no panic. I don't get it!

I feel the same way lately. This is something new that started a couple weeks ago. All I can think of is getting more info and trying to figure everything out. This could be an obession for me, there always seems to be one or another at any given time. Just two weeks ago it was a health obsession that drove me nuts, but it disappeared like they always do. Now I believe that this is the new one. I certainly don't think it's helping me. I can't really think clearly because I never give myself a break from thinking about it. I think we need to back away from it and do something else. Today was especially bad, didn't have a single time when it wasn't on my mind. (I take that back, I didn't think of it at all when I was called down to the barn because chicks were hatching and mean hens were trying to get them! It's hard to panic when you're holding something as precious as a newly hatched little life.) But anyway, I think I'll vote the health obbession back in! This new one sucks! LOL
