Billiard Halls and Girlfriends

Neek, since your girlfriend is a non-smoker, there is no way she can understand how you feel! My husband is a non-smoker and I know how happy he is for me not smoking, but the only thing he can say is "I'm so very proud of you! But I know that if I should start smoking again he would be very upset, it means a lot to him. During my quitt-process I am the one that take the initiative to celebrate and because I have been smoke-free for almost 9 months he take it for granted that I don't smoke, he sees me as a non-smoker and I need to remind him from time to time that I still suffer now and then. The quit has to be for our selves, we might have quit because of pressure from our loved ones, but at the end it's all about us and how much we want to quit smoking.

Neek, is that true? You only quit smoking because of your girlfirend and you stay quit because otherwise she would be mad of you? What would happened if you have a fight/argument and you are upset with her? Would you starts smoking because at that moment you no longer care about what she think? The Quit has to be about what YOU want! If you don't want to stop, I don't think your quit will last in the long run.

Perhaps I should have her cry for a few hours in front of you and have her tell you how much "Your smoking hurts me." It's heart wrenching when hot girls that you care about cry in front of you. Keep up the good work Phil. I used to play pool every week atleast once. For 5 hours or so. Before, when I was smoking. I would bring a pack with me and probably buy another one while I was there. After I quit I had not been back to a pool hall since. Well I went to one last night. I didn't smoke (thank god). I did notice that I played like crap though. I kept thinking about it. I smelled like the bar when I left. My girlfriend told me a smelled when I got back. She's very open with me and tells me how she feels quite often. I can tell she is skeptical of weither I didn't smoke or not. Pretty much since I smelled so bad I could have gotten away with it if I wanted to. Sometimes I feel animosity towards her for second guessing me, or trying to read into me. I know it's unfair becuase I had lied to her in the past, but still. So yesterday was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. I drank while I was there too. I guess I have the resolve to stick this out. Day by Day Phil, Day by Day. You'll never get away from the cravings. My mom used to smoke ages ago and she says every once in a blue moon it'll hit her, but passes almost just as fast. She's been off the butts for atleast 19 years now. I'd like to think that my situation is unique, but it probably isn't. My old posts when I first started my quit are probably super buried so I'll recap. I quit because my girlfriend didn't like my smoking. So (after 3 or 4 attempts), I did. Not saying that I like it. Not saying that I wouldn't smoke if she wasn't in my life. I think it's difficult for me because it FEELS forced on me. But it's all for my health. I'm only 26 and had not been smoking all that long before hand. I still think about it every morning. With my coffee, after meals, while playing pool, every time I see someone smoking. It's not like 100 days is a magical number where you stop thinking about cigarettes. You'll always think about them. Tasting the forbidden fruit is the way I discribe it. I'm fair to her. I was an ass, I have come to terms with her on that. But I don't feel that it is her place to be the judge on how my quit is going. Or making me feel guilty because I smell like smoke. In all honesty I felt like smoking more when I got home than when I was at the pool hall. After what she said to me and how she made me feel I felt unappreciated. I give her credit where credit is due. I know trust isn't earned over night either. It probably takes just as long as it takes to be a 'non-smoker', but all I see now is skepticism. I love the fact that she's open with me, but there is a point at which I don't want to hear what you're thinking. Sometimes things are best left unsaid. I went out. I didn't smoke. That's all that should matter. I'm really on edge. It almost seems like she's just waiting for me to F up again. I must be taking this the wrong way. I thought that my girlfriend would be the one showering me with praise and congradulations because I did this for US. All I get is a "I'm so proud of you" when I tell her that I haven't smoked for XXX days. She says that she's forgotten about it. She even promises me rewards that never materialize. She has no idea how difficult it is for me, so there really isn't anyway for her to know how much these little things impact me. All I know is that my quit is only for me now. If I mess up then it's our problem. There just seems to be such a negative twist on it sometimes that really gets me depressed. I tell her of my dail struggles sometimes and all I get are the "proud of you" sentence. Maybe she's scared to ask about what I feel etc. I feel like I'm saying too much. This place always brings out the worst in how I feel, becuase I feel like I can open up. I bottle my emotions quite a bit and usually never let them out. The only thing that keeps me from smoking is knowing that she'll be mad at me if I do. It is what it is. I love her. There isn't really another option for me is there? I smoke... she breaks up with me most likely. I don't smoke, I get to be around the woman I love. We had our 1 year anniversary on October 15th. Seems pretty cut and dry to me.
