CD - Steven Tyler once wrote 'you have to lose to learn how to win' (I'll let you guess the song). I'm a 30+ year smoker giving it another try. I think I've quit every year since I started...I failed so many times, I think I finally figured out how to do it right. I quit this Tuesday, for good this time. I'm keeping a positive attitide and keeping in touch with all of these great folks here. Smoking is disgusting and it's killng you. That's all I keep telling myself. I know how to quit this time. You'll see different folks here used different ways to quit...there's no magic potion (if you find one, let us know). If I can do it, anyone can. Good luck and stay on the board with us! Hi, CD: I have 7 days clean and free right now, and it isn't nearly as hard as it has been in the past when I quit; who knows why? I did go to a hypnotherapist, I have been taking Wellbutrin for a few weeks, but I sorta think the craving is all in my head. Certainly I am over whatever withdrawal stuff I might have had. Here's a couple of tips that have helped me: The cd that came with the NR patches which I tried before says that for a lot of us, the inhale of the cig was the deepest breath we took, and it suggests just taking a deep, slow breath, holding it for 3 seconds, then slowly exhaling through your mouth. This is good to do when you feel like you want a smoke. Another interesting and useful thing is an ancient Hindu meditation technique called "being the witness". It can be used like this: when you are totally into the desire and the craving for a cigarette, just mentally step back and examine your craving; say something like "Hmmm. How interesting. So that's what it feels like to really crave a smoke." Then you can decide whether to continue feeling that way, or to move on. This was originally in Ram Dass' book "Be Here Now". I am finding that the support from the people here on this site is great; even though I am truly computer-illiterate, and can't even get to the Instant Messaging place, I can still get so much help, as well as all of the information in the Program. Best of luck to you! lladro My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/15/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 145 Amount Saved: $33 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

I want to thank everyone who responded to my add. And Fern, you hit it right on the nose, about the Anxity. I have had alot of panic attacks. First one sent me to the E.R. That's my main concern of having another one when I try to stop. And trust me that's not the best feeling. Very scary. When i dont have a cigarette that's how i feel.. SCARED. Like i cant handle it. I'm not a failure and i know i can do this with a help of my family and my friends i met on here. So please keep me in touch and in mind. Among my several quits was a major 11 year quit. I've been smoking for the past three years, frequently saying that I will quit again. At one point I became staunch and declared that I would quit by this fall, Oct. or Nov. My boss, who is versed in addictions (and wonderful), asked me what was so significant about Oct. or Nov. I replied " It's not now ". But now it is now and in the past and I'm into my quit. And also one more thing,'When i don't have a smoke,I feel like im going to freak out.thank you CD". I love this!!! Because I frequently feel like this. But, you know what? This is not about what you feel. It's about what you know is better. And what you are strong enough to attain. I'm gotta tell ya now (this may be a secret and I may get censored -) but, this site is not for the faint of heart. Get real. Post often - even when you don't feel like it and reach out. We are all in the same boat. You'll learn from us and we'll learn from you. We may be on separate pages sometimes but we're all in the same book and supportive of each other. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/19/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 18 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 190 Amount Saved: $90 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 18 Mins: 7 Seconds: 46
