cd and fern.....have you considered that quitting isn't a "sentence"...it's you, "choosing" to not light up. Saying to yourself, "Oh God, I can never, ever again smoke will put the best intentioned quitter into a panic." Don't go down the "forever" road at this point.....try to stay in the present.....just "choosing" to not light up. ( first off, you destroy all your smoking materials..ALL of them!) Plan small actions that will help to distract and delay you from going for smokes when the urges come. Just keep "putting off". When you haven't smoked for half or a whole day..??....well reward yourself in some small way. Keep these little treats planned ahead too. they will help to keep you focused on choosing NO to the smokes.
I was a 2pk and over a day smoker....I was one of those people who would panic when I was home with only 5 smokes and the thought of the rest of the day ahead of me. I would rip someone's face off to get a smoke....I would be wild when faced for a period of even a few hours without a smoke. Quitting for me was NOT easy.....but you know, I got mad.....mad that this stupid addiction was literally "running" my life....and I used that anger to maintain the control and keep saying "no".......you can do this too.
I promise.....NO ONE has died from quitting.....not ONE of us!
Lay some plans, grab hold on here and get it done.....you CAN win
