Just to let you know - you have company - with the stop smoking thing! What an evil thing! This stop smoking thing is very hard - people don't realize it until they would have to go through it themselves. I'm writing from the US - Portland, Oregon - you may not know where that is! Funny - my ancestory is from England! I understand & know about the grandparent thing - I'm a 50 year old with a wonderful beautiful granddaughter (she really is beautiful!) The apple of my eye! She brings so much joy, laughter & happiness to me! More than words can imagine! She will be 9 months old here in a few days. I wish you the best for guitting those nasty little cancer sticks! Wish me luck also! Best regards - from the USA! Hey Tony - It's great that you're joining us. I think everyone here has had the same experience as you had with quitting. You get through the hard part, get along fine for a few months or so and then...BAM! Just out of no where you have a smoke. I've quit many, many times this way, my friend. Think back, though, that 1st smoke after a 3,6 or 9 month quit. It tasted like crap. It was like I was 15 again forcing that filth back into my lungs. I didn't get any enjoyment from my relapse smokes. It took 10 or more smokes to get back that 'smoker's feeling'. Why do we go back to smoking, then? There's alot of theories of why we relapse after so long (the excitment of quitting wears off, you have a tense moment, you gained too much weight, etc.), but I'm on the look out for it this time. I suppose that as time goes on you forget about it altogether...I never made it that far, either. Anyway, it's not a physical craving that you'll be having, it's all in your head. Stay on this board and we'll all get through this together. Here's hoping that we're all still posting in 2008! Good luck.. Peace. -- 2tone My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 176 Amount Saved: $33 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 0 Mins: 57 Seconds: 15

Tony: One more thing. Your grandson Cameron is so important and I know you want to be there for him. My screen name is Faithfreedom because of my granddaughter. She's just two and her name is Faith. She's my absolute joy (her father is my son Cameron). My two major reasons (not the only ones) for quitting are Faith and freedom from the addiction. I don't want Faith to ever be frightened by Grandma because she's dragging along an oxygen tank and has scary tubes in her nose. That's an image that keeps me going in my quit. Hang in there and keep the faith! Tony, Tony, Tony: Please lighten up on yourself already! Be tough with yourself, but don't leave permanent bruises. I'm with Jaset (well, with everything except that "men are superior" stuff). But I do agree that you need to get mad -- get monumentally angry at the addiction and what it has done to you. Look at all the angst it has caused you over the years, not to mention the fact that it is literally killing you, one slow piece at a time. Anger works if you direct it where it belongs. Take back the control you have given over to the addiction. That's the best part of quitting -- I am back in control and it's damn well going to stay that way. We're with you, Tony. You CAN do this! Keep the faith. Hello Tony, Look, I dont claim to have all the answers, but why dont you try and put this quit in a different perspective. I, like so many, have tried and failed. But this time is the best I have ever had. I dont look at cigs as a demon or a sorcerer, I look at it as something that is trying to kill me and my family. That makes me so mad that something is trying to distroy me and my beautiful kids. Would you not protect your family if something was going to hurt them? Of cource you would! Take a cigarett and hold it up to the light, look at it and tell yourself that you wont let it beat you and you wont let it kill your kids! Cause any father would not let anything happen to there kids if they trully loved them. That goes for me to! Hate it, get really mad at what it is doing to you ang your family? I still have a 1/2 pack of winston in my frig right next to the eggs. Every time i go in that frig, i sware at that pack and it makes me feel great! When the urge comes, stick your middle finger up at it! Do it 3 times to! Then laugh cuz you beat that urge. Continue to do that. When u see a butt on the ground, spit at it and jump on it! Kill it even more! Hey, you have to get used to the fact that you can beat it and control it. Its not unstopable! It can be handeled! But you have to first admitt that you are fighting not a demond, but a thing that has controled u for years. Now its your turn to control it. And like i, you can control it also until it is dead! Its mind over matter! Get pissed off! Use words that you never use! Who cares, its worth it! But look at that smoke right in the gun powdered lines! And spit on it! Tony, men hate to lose. We hate to come in second! When women drive and get lost, they stop and ask for directions, men dont do that, we drive for miles until we find our way back! We hate to lose, we dont care if we look like idiots, we just are men and we think second sucks! So to it is true that we can beat this urge because we hate to lose at anything! It dont matter that cigs are bad for us, thats irrelevent at this point, we already know that! But its the urge that makes us go bake to smoking. Kill the urge! Every time you get that urge, scream at it, even if it last for 15 minutes or more. Scream at it until it goes away. The smoaking habit is ieasy to beat, its the urge that you must concintrat on. When I first started my quit, i had to make adjustments in my life. When I got up each morning for years, I put one foot on the floor as I reached for my smokes on the my night stand. Now I changed that habit by rolling ontop of my wife eash morning when the alarm clook goes off. I roll over her and get out of bed on the other side. But first i kiss her to shut her up! lol I drive a diffrent way to work to avoid the store where I get my cigs every day. I change all me habits what went along with smoking! Tony, please, try this, it worked for me and I am 45 days smoke free. I get very angry at that urge and it knows it! Sometimes it lasts up to 15 minutes and thats ok, cuz I know it will go away because I tell it to! I talk to it like it was my enemy! And you need to do this also! Hey, you cant blame it tho, you chose the urge many years ago. Its no ones fault but yours! You invited it into your life, and you have the willpower to get rid of it. You must put all your efforts and energy into this urge for it is trying to beat you. You are a man and men hate to be beat at anything! We are superior, so we have the power to conquer all, even a the simple urge to smoke! But you can not give up, if you give up, then you lose the fight ane men dont lose!!!! Dont be a pussy, be a winner! Beat this thing! It wants to kill you and your family!!!! It wants to live in your body for ever. So kill it NOW AND FOR EVER! I will back you up for the rest of your life and so will all of us! We love you and we hate the urge! When it comes, tell it to f*** off! DOWN WITH R.J.

I`m here and I`m ready...just a few more hours and I`m quit. Below is my profile....and...I`m telling all of you that this has GOT to work this time. My health is deteriorating rapidly.Come on and lets crack this demon........... I`m Tony from Warrington(was Warrington Toe) but I`ve failed yet again. I live in Warrington, England, UK with my wife and 2 children. My other 2 children have flown the nest and I now have a Grandson called Cameron. He is my hope and joy to really get this quit over and done with once and for all. Sorry about this, I`m weak. I`ve paid the price for my weakness. I`m having a problem staying off theses cancer sticks even with all the help. I`ve found Zyban my best efforts yet in 62 days and 23 days but yet again I`ve failed. I now am using all my energy to prepare for New Years Day. The usual resolutions of so many. I am taking Zyban on the 18th of Dec and I`m gonna do a solid 2 weeks on them before I quit. I aint giving up, giving up. Tony.
