Can't get motivated..

Jame, I lost 20+ pounds before I quit, but I sure I am bigger than you. I lost the weight and didn't really have a plan to quit. I think it was like a half assed healthy start. I walked on a treadmill every day for 60+ days then I decided one morning the smoking was holding me back. Talked to a buddy at work and he told me about this place. I haven't smoked since...it's only been 3+ weeks, but I feel great...Even with the extra 10-15 pounds. I leveled off and haven't gained any more by controlling my eating at night and between meals. I can't worry about the extra couple of pounds today. I went to the doctor for a check up and he told me...let's wait 3 months and have you come back in. If you can stay off the smokes that's more important than a few pounds. Concentrate on the weight when you move a little further away from smoking. Maybe that can work for you. Go talk to your doc. The weight might make you feel different for a few weeks, but you know you'll lose it. Don't take everything on in the first month. Talk to the Doctor. Keep the faith. I'm not smoking today. Well, I have gained a total of 9 lbs in the 29 days of my quit, and really, I was that much Monday, So it was more like 26 days afterwards... I didn't know any one could actaully gain that fast.. I have been working out all week.. But as far as diet, I have started like 3 or four times, and keep failing at it... Every week, I do good for the first 1-2 days.. and then I start eating a little more and it just keeps gaining up on me. I just love food, And even if I am eating a little better, I can't stay under my points that I should be eating when I was going to weight watchers..Which I just don't have the money to do right now (That cost more then smoking did for me) My cravings are gone.. completley.. I really haven't craved a cigarette since.. (well I went to the bar and had that little slip.. But I didn't count that.. Alcohol involved.. Not fair.) Any suggestions on getting started and staying that way ?? I lost 12 lbs right before I quit, and I just feel like I am right back where I started. Bigger then I want to be. My mind is ready to diet, But my stomach and mouth arent'.. Thanks eveyone for the support. I made it through a week of Tae-Bo, and I am on my second week, As far as the food. I am obsessed with food, and I have always eaten a lot. The day I want to start a diet, I wake up obsessing over it.. And that's all I can think about until I go to sleep.. But I lost ten pounds in about 2 months, So I think I will go for it again. I don't feel that dieting personally will jepordize my quit, Honestly.. I don't really have much cravings or desire to smoke any more. I have started a low cal. diet.. Starting at 149... Goal is 135.. Or a size 9.. weight is only inspiration, No one can see that except me. I will keep you posted.. No worries on smoking until Summer.. That's when it's going to get tough... For the past 3-4 years I have quit in the winter.. Just to light back up in the summer. But this year, I made up my mind, and I just don't want to do that anymore. Thanks again all. Jame and Karen - You are doing so well on your quits and that is the most important thing right now. I didn't start thinking about diet until after 90 days. I've gone on an internet site and talked to afew people and have discovered that there actually IS healthy food that tastes good! I used to reward myself with nutty buddies - Now I have a fruit smoothie made with frozen fruit and yogurt. If the food is healthy (i.e. vegetarian lasagna or chili), I can still eat lots without having too many calories. I've never gone to weight watchers. I was planning on joining (and may still) but I have found alot of information on the internet. All the best to you! Congratulate yourselves on your fantastic quits and don't worry too much about the weight. Jame, I tried for a couple months after I quit to start dieting. It just didn't work for me. I kept feeling as though I was putting my quit in jeopardy and that had to come first. After almost 5 months I started dieting and am now being successful at it. Don't rush it ok, one thing at a time. 149 doesn't seem very heavy at all. What kind of height are you? You talk about getting down to a size 9 - that would be pretty slim I take it? Maybe since you're not overweight, your body is going to find it harder to lose, especially while you go through the period of metabolism adjusting to no smoking etc. I think "diet2 is the wrong approach to go for anyway. I am just trying to get healthier now that I've stopped the smoking. As soon as I hear the word "diet" or think about it, I instantly want chocolate and bread and alcohol and meringues and cheesecake and cream and .......! I think theres also a timing thing and you just have to wait until it's right for you. If it feels like deprivation, you're on a hiding to nothing. Me, I think the scales (excuse the pun!) have finally been ripped away from my eyes. I've been 36 pounds heavier than used to be my "norm" for about 5 years now. Going up and donw by around a stone occassionally. I KNEW I was carrying the extra weight, but somehow I just couldn't "see" it. I was relatively happy when I looked in the mirror. Suddenly, in wanting to be healthier, I look in the mirror and really, really WANT to change the middle aged spread woman I can see in it. I've not felt that way in years. I guess what I'm trying to say is, getting your motivation comes when the time is right - for YOU. Karen, Everyone is different. What works for some may not work for others. If you're concerned about weight gain or are trying to lose, keep in mind that if you eat in the evening you won't have a chance to burn it off so make healthy choices. Danielle ________________________ The SSC Support Team
