Jame, Don't be too hard on yourself. You're focus should be on your quit. Instead of dieting, try starting out by changing your eating habits. Cut out junk food and keep those as rewards for staying smoke free. Include activities throughout the day that provide require you to be more active. Choose activities that are fun to you. Once that has been built into your routine, add more weight loss strategies such as reducing calories, portion sizes... This will also give you a little more time to focus primarily on your quit. Jame, my goal weight is also 135. I think you and I have so much in common. I am currently 155 lbs, like you, I am only slightly overweight. Some people would tell me that I have nothing to lose, but that's because I can hide it well. And also, compared to the average person I am in very good shape. However, compared to how I used to be, or by my own standards, I need to lose 20 pounds. Does this sound familiar to you? Would you like to try to lose this weight together? I would love to be your weight-loss/non-smoking buddy if you're interested. Karen. Aunt Deb, that's a little strict, isn't it? I understand all about healthy eating and I do agree with a lot of what you said. But I think we can allow ourselves a little bit of slack when it comes to eating and snacking. If I stopped eating at 6:00 every day I'd be obsessing about food andsmokes. Karen. Jame, You are not alone! Oh my gosh, I think I could have wrote your post, word for word! I love food too, especially since giving up smokes. And I am also trying to count WW points. But it is too hard right now to focus on that too much. What I keep telling myself is that my quit is more important than losing weight. But I've got to stop gaining! Right! OK, so you are going to the gym? So am I! I have recently started lifting weights again. I used to a long time ago...then I stopped...long story, I'll save you the details of that one! But, the important thing is that I take time at least four days a week to get a good workout, including weight lifting. Don't get me wrong, I'm not pumping hundreds of pounds. Just enough to gain a little muscle mass. I figure I'm just getting started so it's ok if I don't see results right away. I think in another month or so things will start to look a lot better. In the meantime, if I really want that chocolate bar or ice cream or cookies, I'm going to let myself have it. After all, I'll have plenty of time to burn that off the next time I'm at the gym. Good luck to you and remember, focus on the quit. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 32 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 323 Amount Saved: $272 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 14 Mins: 28 Seconds: 10
