I actually try not to eat after 9:00...that's just an hour or two before bed, and not that difficult to do. Your friend probably lost the 60 pounds (which by the way is fantastic) by diet and eating healthier. I have already lost 4 pounds in one week, by counting calories (and yes cutting out chocolate.....of have mercy). My daily intake is around 1300 calories and lot's of water. Congrats to all of us who are trying to live healthier....what a great new year gift we are giving ourselves and our bodies!! Hey all I have read otherwise on this fact. It is true to eat a carbohydrate enriched meal after 6 is not necessarily desirable, a good portion of its unused calories will be converted to fat, but our body is like a fire- we need to keep it stoked- slowly and steadily putting in more nutritious calories to keep it going. It is really bad to starve yourself for so many hours- the fire goesout- and it takes a lot more energy to get it going again. Remember not to overload the fire- snack on healthy foods all day- it'll keep that metabolism moving- even when asleep- and weight goal will be reached more efficiently. If you feel hungry after 6 its because your body needs some more PROTEIN calories. Try some roasted unsalted almonds or an orange (the sugar in fruit is slow releasing- good for a body ready to sleep) or a fat free yogourt or some 1% cottage cheese. I agree I couldn't NOT eat after 6, I don't get home from the gym until usually 7:30 or 8, and my body needs food!! eat to live- not the other way around! A friend gave me some good advice the other night. She lost 60 pounds with the aid of a dietician(?), she told her never eat after 6 pm, you should go to bed hungry. Anyway, started reading labels at the grocery store today. I am getting geared-up. Still haven't started counting yet. Did get on the scale this morning, wasn't as bad as I was expecting, it still wasn't good. Yeah, reading those labels will scare you once you start paying attention. Now for me I grab for more fruits and veggies. More bang for the buck. And I saw the calorie count for a burger at Chili's last week. It was my allowance for the entire day, and it didn't even include fries! I dunno about going to bed hungry...that would set me up to binge at nite. I think if you're making the right choices and staying at your allowed calories, it really doesn't matter. I DO understand that it may play into the way your metabolism works, like when to work out, when to eat breakfast, etc. but If I'm losing 1-2 lbs a week, then I am a happy camper. Pen, it really is a formula, 3500 calorie deficit a week to lose 1 lb. 500 calorie deficit per day. Burn 500 more than you eat in a day, and you're set. I eat more when I exercise more, but always keep a calorie deficit. I've seen the light. Forget the Atkins diet that I used to do. I tried again in early november and couldn't last 6 days on it. I was miserable. Now I'm eating carbs, sugar, etc. in moderation. Of course its new to me, so I have no idea if it will be this easy longterm. Ter724, Thank you for sharing this tidbit of information with us. Dieticians are a great ressource for information regarding weight loss as is your doctor. So at your next appointment, ask questions. They have a wealth of knowledge to share, take advantage! Danielle __________________________ The SSC Support Team

Thanks Andrea, I'm happy with the additional weight that I have put on since I quit in 2004 but I have reached a level that I do not wish to go beyond. It's nice to have your proven formula to work to if the additional pounds get out of hand! Regards Penitent d941
