I cant believe its nearly time to forget the weekly perils and pitfalls of the daily grind . Sunday is my first week out of the way and the closer it gets the harder things become . Friday night. FRIDAY *#%*&%*!!! NIGHT! . What do i do the phone will ring at some point this evening, "you still on for tomorrow night?",The voice on the other end will say. Time to panic. How do i cope a few jars with the lads, most of whom smoke, cant preach to the and out line the perils of smoking, they all ready know, they just haven't reached the point in there lives when they ready to take up the fight. Might tell them i have been rushed away for a secret government mission, but if i tell them what it is i will have to kill them. With a carrot. Not hard as it sounds. Any hoo getting back to it, do i go out and really test myself?, or do i avoid the hole thing all together and take the secret mission?. HELP!. And to make things worse my beloved ENGLAND Rugby team play the SPRINGBOKS on saturday and there on the brink of there worst run in history . Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!. I have read all yous comments and i thank you for your wisdom. I can watch the match at home and i can give Friday nights a miss, just for the moment. The extra cash will go towards an even better hopefully smoke free christmas. I'm on day 10 (completed 9 full days), and I wouldn't trust myself at a bar yet. I LOVE going out with friends and having a martini or two, but this is something I'm going to postpone for a little while. I will probably discuss it with SSC as New Year's starts to roll around, but until then, I'm protecting my new quit. Protect yours too. Speaking ONLY for myself, it might be just a tad early to hit the bar scene, but you will surely know what's best for you. I spent my first weekend cowering under the bed, sort of whimpering until Monday came around again. peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 17 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 877 Amount Saved: $93.5 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 1 Mins: 47 Seconds: 35

Golly Alexander, you are surely putting yourself at greater risk than you wish to at this point. Have you read the last couple of posts from those that went to bars and lost long time quits? Please don't put yourself in that position just yet. It's only my opinion, but I'd say that was testing your determination a little early. You could invite the guys over to watch at your house, and inform them all that it's no smoking inside, but even that would be somewhat premature, to my mind. Personally, I'd opt for the secret mission, but it's certainly up to you to make your own decisions. Hi Alexander - There is no way I would have gone to a bar full of smokers during the first few weeks of my quit...I'm not even sure if I would do it now. If you choose to go........be very careful.....and make sure you have an escape route planned and leave early if needed. Best of luck! Alexander, Everyone is different. Only you can choose what is best for you. Most members have found it helpful to wait until they are a little more secure in their quit. If you do decide to go out, prepare well. Take along the same coping tools you've been using to get yourself through the days. You may also find it helpful to reduce your alcohol intake. If the situation proves to be too tempting, remove yourself for it and reward yourself for staying smoke free. Let us know how it goes. Danielle ______________________ The SSC Support Team
