Coping with withdrawals and mending a broken heart

18 years ago 0 42 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Well, I'm into day five of not smoking and I'm proud of myself. I'm quitting smoking while at the same time mending a broken heart. I can see when I'm down I want to pick one up. I'm withdrawing from the cigarettes and someone who I care about tremendously. It's tough. I walk around with a lump in my throat....and all I want to do is sit and sulk and smoke. But I'm not. Smoking won't bring us back together. I play a game with myself - that my biggest triumph will be to stop smoking and when I get that "handled" the love of my life will show up and I'll be the kind of partner that I want to be in a relationship....with myself, my partner and with everyone with whom I come into contact. Linda you should be proud of yourself hon ! You've done a great job so far,,keep on going ! There are so many stresses in our lives and yours is a critical one - so hard to mend a broken heart, but smoking won't help the mend.. Keep strong dear one.. and do the bowl of ice cream thing with a funny movie. Post often and do lots of reading here.. Always remember we are here for you ! I sure hope the shotgun approach works for you, Linda -- I seriously doubt that I could do that. I wish you health of body, heart, and spirit --- peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 18 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 931 Amount Saved: $99 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 6 Mins: 21 Seconds: 43

Linda, I do truly believe that in quitting we choose to take back our control, take back the control over our lives, and in that process, we learn so much about ourselves and how much we are REALLY capable of, that we DO triumph and bring into our lives the kinds of people and things that we deserve. Congratulations for some really good insight, your 4 smoke free days, and I welcome you to the family here. Hi Linda - well you are grieving the loss of two relationships at the same time. Well I can't comment on the other loss, the loss of your addiction will bring nothing but good to your life (Now - I haven't heard that of quitting bringing back lost loves or turning people into super models or anything like that.......but it feels so good to be able to take back control of your life and not be ruled by an addiction. The self confidence that you gain, we give you the ability to go out and get the things that you want out of life. It's not an easy journey but it is so worth it. Keep posting and keep reading. We're here for you each step of the way. Quitting smoking will be the easiest for sure! At one time I thought I had a handle on life, then the handle broke! Whatever hardships or joys we endure can be done smoke-free. That's for sure. Sending hugs your way! Linda, I know it's tough but you're truly wise to hold on tight to your quit. "This too shall pass" ... until it does... put on some comfy pajamas, get a bowl of your favorite ice cream and watch a good comedy movie. Pamper yourself with a few simple pleasures. Get a good night's rest. Tomorrow is a new day :) Congratulations on your 4th day, Linda. What a fantastic and positive change to make in your life.
