Suddenly...

Hi Phil, I noticed that too. I think we should never underestimate the power of our addictions. Not one week from now or 1 year. We gave up not only something that was killing each and every one of us...but it was also like our security blanket in times of happiness, sadness, friendship, good times, and bad times. I have to learn how to be me without the security blanket. I have to learn to enjoy and deal with all the emotions of life without lighting up, and I'm taking it one stressor, one laugh, and one day at a time. Hugs...Kaitilina My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 183 Amount Saved: $44 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 17 Mins: 40 Seconds: 57

Dunedad: It's interesting for me that a lot of my quit attempts have been in the fall. (tomorrow I think is national smoke out day). It would not make sense that this national day was set at a time that national tobacco sales were at an all-time high, would it? It could be the time change and the weather change. You know there was a baby boom from Katrina (no electricity for weeks) and some big black out - where was that? New York?. What I was trying to say is that people's behavior's are adaptive. But I was thinking. Did you reference 3 months? I can believe there are a fair amount of relapses in a three month time period. I don't believe that I need to tell you that this quit smoking thing is a difficult task and sometimes it requires several attempts to scrape this monkey off your back. I guess the question would be, that if there are re-smoking actions after three months, then on the average how would you see that? Would it present as a periodic person lapsing into smoking,or as several relapsing? You said you sensed several (a wave)? I would trust your observations (I haven't been here long enough to see it, all I see are those people re-committing to quitting). You may know, there is such a thing as the "cluster effect" and something like everyone moving in a herd. It raises the question of the of a web site such as this, especially where some may align closely with someone else who then slips. I would argue that the benefits of this forum far outweigh the possible negative consequences. And, that that is why it is so important for people who are successful to keep giving back. Just like that movie, it's important for you to "pass it on". Good Night. Go to sleep and when you awake you will find that you have another day of quiting behind you. That's what I'm going to do. Good night. Well Phil,, You're right! I wasn't dealing well with all the stressors about 4 or 5 days ago and I was bugging out with it all! And as I continued to read I saw many other's were having there share of problems too. For me I was able to talk myself out of it and move forward. I'm sure it is the changing of the seasons - dark so much earlier etc. adds to it as well. In the meantime, I've been reading recent posts and many seem to have used their tools, invaded their crave carts and pampered and rewarded themselves back into a positive mode once again :) Onward we gooooooo ! ! ! I saw a post this morning before work..but I didnt have a chance to reply on it and I cant find it again. But the person was at about a 7 days on their quit, and talking about seeing alot of "doom and gloom" here at the site. Here is, based on my recent experience what I theorize: I think at about 6-7 days. The mind starts seeing things different. I mean looking back now, at what I posted and what triggered it, To be honest, was really trivial. I think during this time period, I may have been, sub-consciously, seeking what appeared to be negative outcomes. Well, I guess it is the mind trying everything it can to get what it craves. Twisting, Turning, distorting. That would be the nicodemon part of our mind. It is something that reared it's ugly head at about a week. So now, when I see that someone struggled and had a momentary slip, it doesnt mean it is going to happen to me. And if it did I will follow these brave people's example and get back on with it. Anyway I wanted to end this thread on a positive outcome, and look forward to heck week being done---Kevin My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 10 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 219 Amount Saved: $46 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 13 Mins: 21 Seconds: 53

You aint kidding Phil!!! I have been reading post after post after post..I have been a post junky!..just like I was told to do at the beginning of this. I am really starting to get discouraged, it's either that or just realise this is going to be a life long struggle...I just finished my 1st week w/o smokes in 25 years..I guess, I think, I am just going to stay away from reading or posting anymore. Anyway, Phil. I really didnt mean to go off on a tangent here, but it just started to flow....... signed......DONEdad My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 157 Amount Saved: $32.2 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 2 Mins: 46 Seconds: 16

Hey Dunedad - Please don't get discouraged. There are tons of successful, happy quitters. I have had many many good days. Now the last couple day have been rotten....I don't want to smoke...but I post because I need to vent, because I am learning new ways to deal with those rotten days from people who have successfully quit smoking - I get support from people going through the same thing. In the past, I reached for a smoke every time I had a problem...so I am learning a whole new way of life. I sometimes don't post as often to celebrate all those good days, but you've reminded me that it is important to share those too so that people who are starting out realize that there is so much more out there. If I was happier smoking, I would be smoking right now....but I'm not. Read through the hall of fame....make sure you read all the posts from successful quitters. There is tons of good news out there! We are getting a 'wave' of old hands being got at by Old Nick.I read in a post somewhere that this can happen.I ahve been knocking around here causing havoc for nearly 3 months now and have not seen it before. I wonder does it happen at this time of year, winter coming on,nights getting darker? Could be!
