Patches and Appetite

17 years ago 0 115 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Im still on the patch and lately alot of foods taste like junk to me. I like taco pizza and the other night it tasted like cleaning solution, today my hubby and I went to Arbys and it was horrid, he said it tasted normal to him. I just cant eat much cause it all tastes awful. I hope it doesnt hit me, I am losing a lil weight I gained after he came home from Iraq. EEEEK! Somebody please buy Phil a teddy bear! My last day of patches was Monday. The 7mg. was barely there so I've been eating the past couple of weeks. This week - I CAN'T STOP EATING!!!!!!!!!!! I am never like this. I'm picking up pounds like a hound picks up fleas. I finally made some band aid changes starting yesterday and am serious about getting a handle on this (so that I don't get a handle). I have gained 30 lbs (in 3 months) since I quit!!!! I was hungrier when I first quit even though I was using the patches and then I went off the patches....and guess what? I am STILL Hungry!!!! I decided that starting January I am going back to Curves and will start to count calories and eat more sensibly...compared to now where I just eat all I want whenever I want...... Hi serenity - As much as I am whining about food these days, it is mostly just my new preoccupation (learning how to eat healthy when I am surrounded by food). I gained 10 lbs in 3 months and lost 8 lbs in a little over 1 month. I haven't been starving myself but I am exercising alot more. If I had made healthier choices at the beginning, I would have gained less (but one thing at a time for me) The great thing about quitting smoking is that I not have the energy to exercise regularly. I think it's different for everyone...I just wouldn't want my whining to scare anybody from quitting...the weight gain wasn't "that" bad. I was a little discouraged at first...the first 2 months weren't too bad (but I was on the patches) ...the third month was a killer (5 lbs in one week alone!) The good news is that I have started upping my gym time and slightly improving eating habits...and I actually had a 2 lb weight loss. I'm in for calorie counters in the New Year! I was just wondering if anyone has noticed a correlation between patch use and appetite. I used the patches to quit and did not have any huge gain in appetite during the first two months. However, recently I have noticed that I am ravenous. (It's not the "want to eat because I can't smoke" hunger....it's real hunger) I believe that smoking suppressed my appetite. I wondered if having nicotine in my system (through patches) also suppressed my appetite. Did anyone else notice an increase in appetite when they came off the patches? I'm not planning on returning to nicotine - going to start packing healthy snacks to have throughout the day and going to work on new eating habits in the new year. I'm just trying to figure out where this huge appetite came from and why now??? My two pennyworth. I have lost weight since I stopped smoking and am beginning to wonder if this weight issue mainly relates to girls. On the other hand it could be that you girls notice more. Any of the boys out there who can comment on my theory? Cheers Phil PS Ladies do remember we dont like supermodels we need something to cuddle! So Danielle - is it a fact that in time, metabolism DOES sort itself out again after a quit? And how long on average does it take? Everybody I ever knew has put on weight when they quit. I stopped once before and put on LOADS - and I have to admit, that's the thing that worries me most as I am already carrying more than I'd like. Thanks S My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/10/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 45 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,598 Amount Saved: 270 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 16 Mins: 47 Seconds: 24
