What are you most proud of about your Quit?

18 years ago 0 87 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I'm heading into week 2, and from what I've read so far I'm bracing for depression and being incredibly emotional, I've already warned the family. We're battening down the hatches so to speak. Most other symptoms have come to pass already. Please help me out and keep my focus. I can't help but think about what I am most proud about my quit. I'm wondering if any one else thinks of that? I'd love to hear what you found was your greatest strength, or what suprised you the most about being a non-smoker. When no one is looking, you know you are a non-smoker, what makes you smile to yourself about this whole process? For me it's suprising to find that I really do have the endurance to do this, rough patches and all(I credit you all for that :)). This final quit is not killing me, I thought it would for sure. Eight days ago I was positive of it. I'm able to recognize symptoms of healing now. I never knew these existed, I had never listened to my body that well.(other than to the intense cravings). I'm embracing these new found experiences, nightmares and all. I smile knowing its the nicodemon dying . :eg: Die Nicodemon Die! I think that I'm proud because this hasn't been an easy quit and I've done it anyway. I remember one of my nieces asking me if I would just try (and that was 2 years ago). I'm so proud that I finally "tried" and that I am doing it. I'm proud that I am much stronger than I thought. Ness- Do not think the worst of your quit...sometimes your quit is all how you look at it!! I thought I could NEVER quit smoking it would be HORRIBLE and I would rip everyone's head off!!! But it is not that bad and I love the benefits!! What makes me happy about being a non smoker...I can breath. I can breath a deep breath, never knew what that was like. And I can taste my coffee in the morning!! Another thing I can smell my own perfum now all these years of expensive perfum and I could never smell it!!!! :) Just take it one day at a time!!!! Yes....the quit process itself gives you the opportunity to REALLY get to know yourself. Your limitations and capabilities, strengths and weaknesses. Congrats on two weeks, Ness!
I'd love to hear what you found was your greatest strength, or what surprised you the most about being a non-smoker. When no one is looking, you know you are a non-smoker, what makes you smile to yourself about this whole process?
My greatest strength was overcoming the initial fear, to turn negative thinking around and to reach out to others. Once I quit, I was really surprised at all the weird changes my body went through while it was trying to get all the poison out of it. When no one is looking, I smile knowing this is my first quit ... no slips ... and no desire to ever go back to smoking again. It really feels great. Ness, Keep in mind that everyone experiences different symptoms at different times. You've prepared and that's great! Having an emergency coping plan may also proove helpful. We'll be watching for you in the days to come. Keep us posted, we are here if you need us. Danielle ______________________ The SSC Support Team

Good morning, Ness, I have to agree with Pen. You may not experience those emotions but it's definitely wise that you're prepared in case you do. The most surprising thing about my quit is it was fairly easy. In saying that, I don't mean that I didn't experience some withdrawals and some adjustments, I just didn't have the difficulty in dealing with them that I'd come to expect. I'd never tried to quit before. All those fears I had for so long were unfounded. I'm even more surprised that I actually did it. I "loved" smoking one day...and the next day, I put on the patch. No preparation at all. I've reached "normalcy" again without smoking and all the nagging thoughts that accompany it... and that's what makes me smile as an ex-smoker. That, and improved health. From day one, you have had such a great attitude... Keep up the fantastic work and congratulations on completing hell week! The benefits are to many to mention here. OK, I marvel at and am most proudest of the mere fact that I did it.
