How do I cope with other smokers!!

18 years ago 0 49 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
It is not easy. For me i try my best to avoid them. Even though it may be the hardest thing i have done until this point. Also I can not ask 1 or the other to go out side or to another room. Cause 1 of them own the house i live in and the other just wont. Any way all i can tell you is that what others said go to another room, go out your self. Shalia, My hubby smokes. For a long time it was hard for me. My last quit I was giving in everytime he came home. It was the junkie sayin you can have 1 now becuase you made it threw day. Th e only thang that did was postpone my quit, and make my withdrawls worse and longer. That was dumb. Ask your bro's to go out side. I like what Danille said about getting yourself out. However you just need to tell your junkie no. You are not depriving yourself of anything.(even if it may feel that way.) If fact you can smoke at anytime, even without your brothers. You must remember why you are doing this. Be strong, and try to avoid brothers at all. If you are having a hard time, watch them as they smoke. They really are not enjoying themselves. Next wait until they are finished and smell them. Oh Shaila it really is repulsive smell. In fact the last time I was around while he was smoking I almost threw up. Remember how grose it is. You can do this. You are smart, beautiful, and was created for love. The best thing you can do is love yourself. Grace

Shaila, can you ask them not to smoke around you and not leave their cigs all over the place to help you at least in the beginning? Sty away from the smoke as much as you can. Can you post your meter this helps also? One day at a time :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 71 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,071 Amount Saved: $284 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 10 Mins: 9 Seconds: 0

Shaila, Keep your coping mechanisms close. If they won't smoke outside, or limit their smoking to one or two rooms in the house, then remove yourself from the situation. Take yourself out and do something fun. This can be your reward for not giving in when cravings reach high levels. Keep persevering! Danielle _________________________ The SSC Support Team

You have to start reminding yourself why you decided to quit in the first place: You are not depriving yourself. You are doing yourself a favour. You have given yourself the gift of a better quality of life not to mention additional years of life. And if your brothers don't quit, you might be the one stuck with caring for them when they inevitably end up sick from some smoking-related disease. I'm sorry if I seem blunt but it was the knock-on-the-head bluntness that I rec'd (from some of my favourite SSC-ers) that finally helped me to "get it". mc My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/31/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 357 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,359 Amount Saved: $1428 Life Gained: Days: 34 Hrs: 18 Mins: 24 Seconds: 5
