The funny thing about thinking about quitting the quit is that if you did, you'd be MORE miserable! I know that the thoughts come, but remember when you were smoking, all you thought about was quitting? Wel, NOW YOU HAVE!!! You have gone 21 days! That is so AWESOME! It's weird, isn't it, that you can actually have gone 3 weeks without one? But you have!!! Give yourself a reward, you truly deserve a nice manicure, pedicure, a special coffee, an ice cream sundae (ooooh, Baskin Robbins Pistachio Almond with hot fudge + whip cream!), or just a soak in a warm bubble bath..... Hang in there, you are doing great! Thanks for all the positive feedback. Of course one decent day does not make a week. The cravings are back but fortunately not as bad as the first two weeks. I have been guilty of secretly planning a quit end date. I know it's not what I really want to do, but since it's been so difficult I feel a real reward is deserved. I've rationalized this by thinking that I won't enjoy it, and it will be good reminder of why I quit in the first place. I know it's BS but I can't help the way I think. I've spent many more years rationalizing my smoking then rationalizing my not smoking. I guess as long as I keep planning the date in the future I might never reach it...Hopefully. I've gone through just about everyone of the symtoms I've read about on this site. Cravings, depression, anger, you name it. It's nice to know that I can come here and find someone I can relate to who is having the same issues and may be able to provide insight as to how to overcome a particular situation. For those who are having bad times all I can say is hang in there. It will get better. The last two weeks for me were really hard to the point where I was making promises to myself like....What's the point, am I suppose to live in misery the rest of my life. If I'm this miserable next week I'm going to quit the quit. But by just giving myself more time to see how it turned out I got a little better. Now I'm having a decent start to the week and am feeling stronger. Especially since I made it through another weekend which happens to be the hardest time for me. Getting through events that in the past were smoking events and realizing that they were not enhanced by smoking, really just related to it, has made life without them bearable. Even enjoyable. I was able to enjoy fishing and playing cards without being miserable, and feeling that they were less fun because I wasn't smoking during them. These "fun" activities where so completely intertwined with smoking in my thinking. Now, I understand that they are separate activities and that I can enjoy them without butts.... Hey JTobin - re: the quit end date....My friend quit several years ago (I think she was in her late 30's). She decided that she was going to smoke again on her 80th birthday. I say that's too soon....but I do agree..you deserve a reward for all your hard work...what's it going to be? Its nice to read your story, jtobin. Every time I read about someone feeling depressed, etc., the fact that it really does lift and life slowly begins returning to normal, makes me solidify my quit that much more. I can identify with what you went through. Interesting your comments about the weekends. I started off hating them and although I am far from being a non smoker(I have had every symptom in the book) the weekends do not bother me any more, probably because I took a 3 week holiday in the middle of my quit and somehow got through it(Dont ask me how) Give it time if you are still miserable dont quit the quit because starting agin would meanthat you will have to quit again at some point and go through all this cr@p again!!!! SO it can only get better!!! Just remember There are no reasons to start again only excuses!!!
