Freebird, my previous attempts at quitting have never panned out due to depression. I feel it this time around too. It seems worse in the beginning for me then gradually dissapates. I too like to be organized, have a good sense of humour, and spend time with people. Right now any kind of organization or my sense of humour have sprouted wings and flown. Nothing feels the same right now. Its like there's something missing. What's keeping me hanging in there is this site and the fact that I know this DOES get better. Time is the greatest healer there is. So, hang in there my friend, and we'll see you through. Cheers, Jan My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 73 Amount Saved: $18 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 6 Mins: 20 Seconds: 38

Free- you sound like I did before I got some help!!! I just did not even feel like ME anymore. I felt empty, just wanted to crawl into bed and have nothing to do with life. Glad you are getting some help!! Phil- My doc never smoked either but I did alot of research on the net on what I thought would work best for me. I just pretty much told my Doc what I needed and he gave me his feed back we agreed and made a plan and he prescribed an SSRI. Best to you!! Freebird, be gentle with yourself. You are still in the early stages of you quit. I am glad to hear you are going to see the doc, as Pen says, work out a plan of action to get you back on track. Hugs PrincessC x :)

Well today finally came. Made an appt with the Doc on Mon to see him today. The last two days seemed like an eternity. Posted on Mon about depression setting in, and I thank everyone that responded with their thoughts, ideas and encouragement. The last week has been tough, but got through it just reading on this site. Thought about what I am going to talk to the Doc about and here are some thoughts. He already knows I quit drinking, which is a year to the day of my smoking quit date. In that time I learned alot about myself, some good and some bad. In this smoking quit, what I have learned is I have to retrain my body and mind on how to handle situations, unfortunately I feel that the smoking has masked a depressive mind. An internal battle of wanting to feel good and feeling good has taken place, yet I can't get my mind and body on the same page. In the past week I don't feel like the same person. Usually upbeat, organized, energized and comical. Instead feelings of pressure, lack of enjoyment, and I don't know about anyone else, but I do feel bad for my wife at this point, but even lack of sexual pleasure. I know that is way personal, but if anyone cares to respond if they had the same feelings, at least I would know I am not the only one. Anyhow hoping the Doc understands, and we can come up with a program to get through this stage. Hello Freebird! My depression, well now that I look back, was one of the worst thing I have ever been through. I went back to the docs yesterday, and like I said before, I was terrified that she would not keep on the meds. I was so fearful of going back into my depression, that I stressed out hard!! At my appt, I made sure I told my doc that. She agreed that mine was clinical depression, and I needed to be on meds for a while. I have a prescription for 10 months. So that eased my mind so much!! I did want to add that what I felt while in my depression, well, it kept getting worse. I too believe that mine was a life long thing, that was masked by smoking. I had this horrible ache in my chest, like my heart was breaking. I longed for something (no clue what that something was). There was some sort of void that I felt. I slept, cried, and was out of control in my emotions. Up and down (yelling to crying). I could not feel joy. I looked at my daughters, and felt nothing. That made me feel even worse. I wanted to just go away......... And I would have, if I had not seen my doc. I felt guilty for my hubby to have to deal with me. I didn't want him to be around me. I felt like a horrible wife. I lived in a black cloud, and went further darker with each and every sad, depressing thought. I was a complete mess!! I am now entering my 4th week on meds, and let me tell you ~ I AM BACK!!! I see light, not darkness!! I can laugh, cry, giggle, and best of all, I can look at my daughters and feel love..... The aching in my heart finally went away. I explained it to my doc that without feeling love, I was hurting. Now I can feel love, and the hurt is gone. Sounds childish, but it is true. Take care of yourself! And let us know how your appointment went. ;) 4my2girls What Consumes Your Thoughts Controls Your Life My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 227 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,826 Amount Saved: $742.29 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 7 Mins: 25 Seconds: 28
