3rd Time's a charm

Hi Tony, Yes-the third time IS the charm. Or at least it will be with you right? They say it takes a smoker an average of 7 times to quit. Bummer. This is my 2nd time this year. I tried a few years ago and managed to stay quit for a few months. I know I can do this. I have to do it. I'm on day three and feel great. I'm going to my 1st yoga class today. Good luck and it's great you are back here-this time for good right? This site is awesome and there is a ton of wonderful support from lots of great folks. See you around.:) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/6/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 68 Amount Saved: $18 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 8 Mins: 29 Seconds: 20

Hey Tony, 3rd time lucky for some! But hey, I'm on my 4th attempt, but everyones different! I think the most crucial thing that I've learnt from my previous quits is that you cannot start thinking about having just a few puffs, or 1 or 2 ciggies. Each time I've done that, I've ended up smoking more than before I quit. Never again. These thoughts seemed to occur to me between the 2 - 4 week mark. That's where I seem to struggle. Good luck man, it's all in the head.... Tony, Congratulations and welcome back to the SSC! Rework our program tools and navigate through the forums, there's lots of new information out there on how to stay quit. Take some time to look back at previous attempts and pull out the strategies that worked well for you. Also identify known triggers and devise a plan to get around them. Start thinking of a reward system. It should have three components: a small reward for overcoming cravings, a medium reward for every smoke free day accomplished and a large reward for reaching milestones. The key to remember when selecting rewards is to pick rewards you will be willing to work towards. Good luck and keep us posted. Danielle ___________________________ The SSC Support Team
