Well i went off the patch this week, didn't do too bad except for being very easily frustrated the second day off of it, yesterday was better and i'm sure today will be even better yet. Glad that the nicotine should finally be gone from my system.....now if only i can start sleeping again My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 56 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,573 Amount Saved: $219.52 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 8 Mins: 1 Seconds: 10

oh yeah and Gonna I found the hardest stepdown was from 14 to 7 as well and didn't stay on 7 very long. I figured since it was so little nicotine I may as well try and go without, but if i feel my quit is in jeopardy I will definately be buying some patches or some gum to help me out again My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 57 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,601 Amount Saved: $223.44 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 9 Mins: 52 Seconds: 12

Thanks for the sleep suggestions... Duckie, everytime I stepped down I went through some withdrawl, most noticably - being irritable and emotional as well I always seemed to get canker sores or mouth blisters for a few days after. Doing better now as far as being irritable but still not sleeping for more than a couple hours each night. May try Healers suggestion from other posts with the melatonin. Hey Sillyme, Hope today is better, good to hear the step-away from the patch was more of a bump than a train wreck. I'm a cold turkey so have no experience to share, except I'm still not sleeping as solidly as I used to. Someone once said "no one ever died of lack of sleep". On those mornings after I've laid awake an hour or two, I'd like to shoot that "someone". But I'd only make more work for Gonna, so I simply put up with it. But I can see that it is getting better when I compare my first few weeks to now. So hang in there and you never know . . . it may resolve itself much more quickly in your case. Hi G =) Well, I think that was my trub back in early July when I had used the patch or maybe it was late June? I cant remember BUT I know at that time, I was smoking more than I had in the past and so I figured since it was always near 10 - 12 cigs at that particular time, I used the 14 mg so I think instead of being sensitive to the patch, I was having the wrong dosage (14 mg instead of the 21 mg)so now I am on the 21 and I actually feel so much better!! I also noticed when I had quit, went back, etc I was smoking more--as if my mind and body were trying to play catch up. THEN being in denial I was actually smoking more, then trying the 14 mg patch instead of the 21, caused my body discomfort and I was experiencing the withdrawals worse instead of the gradual smoothness step down. The gum was working fine for me BUT it was causing severe acid reflux and made my GERD worse. Of course I fell off b/c I was in panic mode over the 2 hernias, the endoscope, etc. I am stupid for falling off and recovering my balance. BUT I took a different path and realized I was smoking more and needed the 21mg patch. Now, I feel stable and very very comfortable in this quit. For stepping down to the 14 mg will be in 3 weeks. A week before I step down to the 14, I am going to pull off the 21 mg patch a few hours before bedtime so the nicotine will have time to level out low before morning. OR I just might do as you have done. I do not look at the patch as a crutch as I am not smoking and taking the other 4000 chems into my system. I am only taking 1 and that is the nicotine. My lungs are clearing themselves out by expelling that brown crud, my body has stopped producing all of the extra mucus, etc so I know I am healing. Dry cough, itchy throat BUT I am doing as the info on this site has told me to do =) So far, so good. The only thing that gives me stress at the moment is the endoscopy results. It's been nearly 3 weeks and I figured if something was abnormal on the tests, he wouldve called me ASAP instead of calling me for a 30 day follow up. Besides, smoking wouldve caused my GERD to worsen, cause my lungs to stay clogged, etc. They didnt help me then BUT what has helped is I quit. And that I must continue to see. Look at me babbling again!! HA! I hope I made sense

Hi SM!!! I went to bed late last night but nooooooo, I was up at 6am =( Did you notice anything as you went thru the stepdowns? I am on day 16 w/ the patch. I must admit, I never finished the program w/ the patch. The 3rd time, I thought I was sensitive to the patch b/c I was experiencing allergic reactions to it so I went to the gum. The gum made my GERD worse so I stopped it. Then I was cold turkey and fell off at 6 weeks. I think the reactions from the last time w/ the patch was b/c I was on the wrong dosage. Even my doc and pharmacist thought I was sensitive to the patch. This time around there is no reactions--just a minor itch that subsides an hour later. GREAT GOING, SILLYME!!!! I can't wait until I am off of these things! Duckie-Some people find the step down from 21 to 14 hard. I did not. I thought 14 to 7 was hard. Either way, the discomfort will only last a few days... This quit I did something a little different-I ordered 10 and 5 mg patches from New Zealand and combined those with my US 14 and 7 mg so the step-down was more gradual (14, 10, 7, 5) I am at 7 mg now and, I must say, my experiment is going very well! I am going to use the 7 for a few weeks as this is when I usually stumble...
