Hi freeatlast,
hope you don't think I'm trying to be clever answering your question while only being on my fourth day myself. But let me have a go anyway:
but give me an idea of when I can totally go without all of the nicotine helps.
How about right now? You'll have to do it some time, right? At least if you truely want to be smoke free and free of your addiction. So why make the agony last any longer? Yes, you might do the "moody thing" for a few days but the good new is: "this will pass". And the sooner you throw the rest of the patches, the sooner it will have passed. I know it's scary. In my 23 years as a smoker I have had 3 quits lasting between 6 months and one year. I have thrown my fair share of tantrums while in withdrawl. But this is not forever. What keeps me going right now is the knowledge that there is a wonderful kind of new normality waiting for me. And for you. But in order to really enjoy it, you'll have to break the last link to your addiction. Stop feeding yourself nicotine. The patches, etc, might have helped for a while and kept you sane. But I think you might have gotten to a stage where they stand between you and 100% recovery.
This is just my opinion of course. But then again I have never done the patch thing. But I hope maybe some of my thoughts might have helped.
Good luck with it all.
