free with patches and gum..but want to quit totally

Hi freeatlast, hope you don't think I'm trying to be clever answering your question while only being on my fourth day myself. But let me have a go anyway: but give me an idea of when I can totally go without all of the nicotine helps. How about right now? You'll have to do it some time, right? At least if you truely want to be smoke free and free of your addiction. So why make the agony last any longer? Yes, you might do the "moody thing" for a few days but the good new is: "this will pass". And the sooner you throw the rest of the patches, the sooner it will have passed. I know it's scary. In my 23 years as a smoker I have had 3 quits lasting between 6 months and one year. I have thrown my fair share of tantrums while in withdrawl. But this is not forever. What keeps me going right now is the knowledge that there is a wonderful kind of new normality waiting for me. And for you. But in order to really enjoy it, you'll have to break the last link to your addiction. Stop feeding yourself nicotine. The patches, etc, might have helped for a while and kept you sane. But I think you might have gotten to a stage where they stand between you and 100% recovery. This is just my opinion of course. But then again I have never done the patch thing. But I hope maybe some of my thoughts might have helped. Good luck with it all. i'm doin alright so far...but am still doing patches and gum...and know I shouldnt be doing both but I am ultra conservative with the gum. I just see sooo much of my triggers and sometimes its rough..just breakin those habits>>lots of years learning them. of course I'm afraid of the physical symptoms cause I can get really moody without nicotine. I'v been weening (20-14 mg....and delaying gum and/or putting on the patches)...but give me an idea of when I can totally go without all of the nicotine helps. Hi free at last, Here is my opinion hope it helps. It's better to use the patches, the gum, the inhaler or whatever tool there is than to smoke. If the patches and the gum are helping you stay smoke free, I say by all means use it. You will find that you need it less and less as time passes and you reaffirm you desire to stay a non-smoker. Good luck And deal with this a day at a time. freeatlast, I used the patches, and i used them just like the direction said. i don't know about using the gum with them. I used cinnamon sticks to chew on and sugar free gum, plus I did alot of deep breathing and re reading my quit info. good luck you can do it. noel My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 90 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,807 Amount Saved: $270 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 3 Mins: 59 Seconds: 26

I had the same thoughts but not after 11 days! At that point, I would have eaten fish heads if it kept me from smoking. After two months on the gum, I started having worries that I would be addicted to the gum because it helped so much yet I didn't think I could be without it. I kept up following the directions for the whole 3 months just as the package said. By that time I was sick of the gum and was only chewing a few pieces a day. It was very easy to let go. But I think if I had tried earlier, I would have had a big chance of slipping. Don't set yourself up for failure. Use what you have to in order to keep going. You have 11 days and that's a huge start. Give your body and mind more time to adapt as a non-smoker. I too ssay follow the directions on the patches! 11 days is very short to be going it alone... I use and have used the patches and without them I do not think I could last through the moddiness. With the patch I have almost no cravings. As time passes with no cravings, then a new habbit if forming as a non smoker. Thats how it works for me.
