heartburn and venting

17 years ago 0 66 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Let me first say that I have tried to quit many many times. The longest I have ever quit was 3 months. What makes this quit different for me is that I'm doing it sober. I have only been sober for 2 weeks and I still crave alcohol, yet I can't stand the smell of liquor now that I have quit, which to me is a good thing. Will I ever drink again, I really don't think so since I went through hell week with withdrawls from that and still have cravings but not too bad. This is the first time I have ever experienced heartburn during quitting smoking. It really sucks! "Tums" are doing nothing for me and I made home-made lasagna and garlic bread with cheese for dinner tonight and I have yet to eat any as the heartburn is just too much. I had to even take my bra off and slip into something more comfortable just to have that feeling of loosness but still I don't feel any better. Did anyone else experience such bad heartburn during their quit??? I am using the 21mg. Nicoderm patch and wonder if the patch is part of the problem??? I have also had headaches on and off since I quit and have been taking "Advil" for them. On another note: When I did try and quit while drinking alcohol I said many things I'm now very ashamed and sorry for: such as I considered those people who cut down others who smoked around their children as holier than others and had no right to say such things to smokers since they probably did the same thing to their own children. But sober me now regrets every blasted cigarette I have ever smoked in my home. I have opologized to my children tonight for smoking around them. Three of them looked at me like I was on glue for the opology and the 4th child was happy I was quitting and hugged me. My spouse has his doubts that I will remain smoke-free for good but that's his doubts, not mine. I could wish like heck that I quit when I was younger but now that I'm 43, at least I woke up and grew up before it was too late for me and I'm sure others are wishing they would have quit at my age. There's always a happy ending no matter what age we quit at but for me..............thanks be to GOD and all the help I have had along the way to be able to post on here tonight. I want to quit for good and as someone once told me..."YOU GOTTA WANT TO" and boy I WANT TO!!!!!

Hi Had Enough :) Wow you truly are an amazing woman. Look how far you have come already, the road ahead may be long and bumpy but we will all be here for you, help you along your journey. Never give up giving up. I used to think i was a really considerate smoker, never smoked around children or others that didnt smoke, always asked other smokers if they minded that i smoked around them (lol) , i either didnt have one or walked away. I never just threw my butt out the car window nor on the ground and leave it there - i always put it in the bin. I didnt get heartburn and i truly hope you are feeling much better today. If it feels as if its getting any worse please see your doc. Big hugs for you. You're doing an amazing thing for you and your family. Looking forward to your posts and getting through this journey together :) Stay Strong. Good luck to you (had enough) you are a strong person. Do it one day at a time. Ps I am on the patch and never felt better, sometimes we tend to blame symptoms on our quit, i don't think the patch is going to give you heartburn if smoking didn't. But to be on the safe side you should talk to a health specialist. :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 39 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 599 Amount Saved: $156 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 6 Mins: 30 Seconds: 47

Golly-I am so proud of you. Like the others have said, you seem to be a strong woman who knows what she wants. I am on the patch and Wellbutrin. I noticed a bit of indigestion at first, but I think it was what I was eating. To stave off the craves, I was eating a lot of fresh veggies-carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, celery. I think maybe a lot of people change their eating habits when they quit. I know I was getting enough fiber in my diet to #$&% a cardboard shoe box! There are some over-the-counter meds that you can take before you eat. But like they said, if it keeps up you might want to talk to your Dr. Oh yeah, also try more frequent smaller meals instead of 3 big meals a day. I'm glad you decided to join us in your quit! Hi had enough, Welcome to the SSC and congratulations on deciding to quit smoking! You've already received some great advice about heartburn, if symptoms persist or worsen please consult your doctor. He/she is the best authority to seek advice from as he/she can take your medical history into consideration. Be sure to take advantage of our quit program located on the left of your screen under program tools. It will teach you about your addiction to nicotine and help you develop a plan to maintain your quit. Start reading through our forums, there you'll find lots of advice on smoking cessation. Congratulations on having reached three days! Thanks for sharing your story! If you have any questions, our moderators are only a few clicks away. Look at you. You are doing great. Heartburn has been a friend of mine for years due to steroid use and smoking. The steroids are for arthritis and Lupus. Any way, there are several over the counter meds you can use for it. Or drink milk. Stay away from spicy foods awhile. Or tuna, onions, garlic, etc. The about site has a whole section on the relief of heartburn and the acid reflux diet put out by the heart association. Hope that you are feeling better soon. Just don't smoke. WOW! You are committed and I'm so proud of you. It takes a lot of courage to apologize and I applaud you. Don't spend your time looking back. Look forward to the good life you are building for yourself and your children. As to the heartburn...I get it when I get stressed and quitting smoking is definitely stressful. Maybe something a little stronger than Tums...talk to the pharmicist or your doctor. Congratulations for three days of not smoking! That is huge and I think you deserve some hugs and some chocolates!
