mental addiction worst than physical addiction

I know how you are feeling. I too get tired of thinking about 'not smoking'. I get tired of thinking about my recovery. But I force myself to realize that is part of stinkin' thinkin' ... because it is so much better to be thinking about those subjects than to think about 'when can I get my next fix'. I am working hard on creating new non-smoking memories to plant on top of the smoking memories ... I can't wait to drown them out ... just like you and everyone else here. You are doing great jeanigirl ... keep on keepin' that quit of yours! Keep persevering Jeanigirl, you're doing great. You can allow yourself some retail therapy... you're suppose to have a reward system! What else are you suppose to spend all that money your saving on? Danielle _______________________________________ The SSC Support Team

Hi JeaniGirl, Well done on your quit! Don't know how long you smoked for - it only takes a few days to lose the addiction to nicotine (not easy, I know), but it does take longer for the memories and 'trigger' events to pass. I'm 4 months into my quit. I now think of it as a picture that I used to see very clearly, but is slowly fading in front of my eyes. I believe that there will come a time when I will look for the picture and it will be gone. But the change is slow - and at the same time, the realisation comes that YES, life isn't all about smoking. I smoked for 30+ years. I am prepared to wait for these changes. Listen to those on this site who are real long-time quitters - they have waited and now are free of this horrible slavery Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 126 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,794 Amount Saved: 945 Life Gained: Days: 21 Hrs: 2 Mins: 8 Seconds: 3

From Golferman & 4My2Girls -- QUOTE: What Consumer Your Thoughts Controls Your Life Yes, it's true, you will get really tired of thinking about smoking, or trying NOT to think about smoking. It won't last forever, and let me tell you -- the first day you don't and you finally realize you didn't think about smoking, it's UNBELIEVABLE! It's really a GREAT feeling.... makes you want to shop though - so LOOK OUT..... Hi Jeanigirl!! I had to reply to your post because I felt the exact same way in the beginning of my quit. All of the thoughts of not smoking were controlling my every thought. There was barely nothing else that I would think about. Now, it has lessened. However, for me, those thoughts were what brought my "fighting" attitude forward. The conversations (or preachings) that I had, really kept me strong, and pumped up!! But I know how you feel. Sometimes just those thoughts can be so overwhelming. And I think you are asking, when will you return to a normal thinking, acting, doing person that you used to be, just this time, without smoking??? Well, I do not know. I am slowly returning to normal for me. I'm not so "pumped up" anymore. I am finally finding some level ground to stand on. You are doing great. Stay strong and commited, no matter what your subsonscious says. ;) 4my2girls What Consumes Your Thoughts Controls Your Life My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 106 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,194 Amount Saved: $346.62 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 13 Mins: 39 Seconds: 10

Early in my quit I "zoned in" on people who smoked. Instead of feeling bad for myself I forced myself to realize how far ahead of them I am. They will quit one day, one way or another. I already have. Now that I am well into the quit - I move away from smokers. To tell you the truth - they look stupid. They look like they are sucking their thumbs or using a binkie...... No thanks - I do think the mental aspects of the quit are worse than the physical aspects but that's just me.....
