Stepping down on the patch

18 years ago 0 481 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Ok, this is only two days away now, and I am 30 days tommorrow! I have decide to concentrate on celebrating that and not think about the step down thing so much. I have the smaller patches in the same place that I kept the bigger ones (I wish they could make them the same size and just make the nicotine weaker. Are all the brands like that?) Anyways, doing good! Thank you. Thank you, you have been very encouraging. I think I will not have much trouble. I went cold turkey for 16 days before I put the patch on and it probly could not be nearly as bad as that! I am going to try to do just exactly as the directions say because I sure don't want to be addicted to a stupid patch! Maybe the Wellbutrin is going to help some too! Come on people, I know there have to be people out there who have gone off the patch ok. I am really anxious about this. Let me know how it was, how you did and anything I can do to help! I have 4 more days! Mama, I wore the patch for about 3 days, read Allen Carr's book and decided I didn't need it at all. The patch was only making the withdrawal harder for me. I took the patch off and I was great without it. I think moving down in dosage will be fine. You must have your mind set: Not One Puff Ever. NOPE. Never smoke again and you will never smoke again. Simple. Mama I used the Patch and followed the direction. I too was a little nervous about stepping down. But I just kept busy the first day of stepping down like bowling, eating at no smoking places. I didn't have any trouble. You can do it Noel My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 97 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,957 Amount Saved: $291 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 0 Mins: 9 Seconds: 41

Mama, Off patches for a long time now. However, in my experience, the step down, from 21 to 14, from 14 to 7, from 7 to nil MG was no problem. Don't worry, sure you'll be fine! When I quit for a full year, I used the patch and I didn't notice any problems with stepping down. This time I am going cold turkey because that year long quit was not that long ago, so it is a bit easier this time. I just have a constant mental battle to fight :) Love Jer I quit smoking on July 6, 2006 at 6:00pm. It has been 1 week, 20 hours, 26 minutes, and 29 seconds since I quit. Had I not quit smoking, I would have: * Smoked 157 cigarettes (That's like smoking a 52 foot long cigarette) * Spent $33.61 on cigarettes * Inhaled 1.57 grams of tar * Inhaled 125 mg of nicotine (That's like doing 2,356 hits of nicotine) * Inhaled 1.73 grams of carbon monoxide * Taken an additional 23 hours, 14 minutes, and 8 seconds off my life

Hi Mama, Don't worry, and don't get anxious. I used the patch for the full term. I think it was 10 weeks, I didn't even think about taking it off until I used the last 7mg patch. That was the only time I noticed any cravings, but I know it was nothing like HELL WEEK. By the time you reach that stage you will learn new techniques of how to manage your time. You will know what to do with your hands, you will know to stay busy at the times you smoked. Especially after eating, or when you finish a job that you have been working on. It was the down times that I would reach for a cigarette, I used a straw, just to have something in my mouth. I used a rubber band with my hands and fingers when I watched TV. I walked on the treadmill. Exercise is wonderful to relieve stress. Think about these things Mama, I know that you can do this. But more important I know that you know this also. Don't ever forget why you quit, and you will find new ones to add as you travel down this journey. We are all in this journey together, and I am so happy that you choose to come this way. Congratulations on your wonderful 25 days, this is a huge milestone and don't forget to reward yourself...Thinking of you... Mama I know you asked for those who used the patch, sorry I did not; however, the quitters that I have seen who have followed the directions from the manufacturer and their doctor and stepped down as the say have yes had anxiety and they have remained successful in their quit. Find and gather all of your coping skills and know that it is you that is quit and that the patch is an aid. You are a very strong and resolute person and have got this far I know you will keep on keeping on.
