I gave up trying to cope without meds

I find it funny that doctors are so easy to give out Paxil, which makes a lot of us feel even worse or crazy but we try to get something else and it€™s like pulling teeth, I have had the same problem. I only have panic attacks when I drive so I only want medication for before I drive. It makes no sense to me to have meds constantly running through my body when I don€™t always need them. And don€™t feel like a failure, maybe his attacks aren€™t as bad as yours or maybe they are just different. We are all different and experience things differently. Take things one day at a time and focus on all you have accomplished and don€™t compare yourself to anyone else, not even your husband, because you are you, not him.

Hi Jamieb, Your not alone. I have to wait to for a psychiatrist appt. I don't when but, I know that I will eventually get my meds. Don't feel like a failure cuz your not. You did what you needed to do. You took the first by getting back to paxil if it works for now, till you see a psychiatrist. I am proud of you. :) There are tools that can help distract yourself from your and dwelling. I like drawing and listen to my cd's. I try to distract myself most with the tv now. Try doing something you love and see what happens.. Let us know what happens. And we are here for you. I haven't been on for awhile but, I am back.. Take care.. Foa :)

I think this site has provided me with some of the best insight and encouragement to figure out what is really bothering me.

hi Jaimeb welcome to the group. Why do you feel like a failure, there is no reason for you to feel like that. We all go through ups and downs with our panic disorder. I first got mine at 15 and was on meds then and they went away bout 3 years later now at 24 they have returned and I did not want to go back on meds either but I had to do something cause I did not leave my house or drive anywhere for a month. My doctor put me on paxil but it wasn't the right drug for me it made me have anxiety attacks and made me loose 9lbs in two days. So I went back and he prescribed zoloft and gave me xanax, but i only take the xanax if I feel that I can't make it through the day. Why won't your doctor prescribe anything else??? Have you tried any other psychiatrist in your area to maybe get a earlier appt? Also I have been doing some exercising during the day and it seems to help me with the attacks. Are you enrolled in the panic program in this site it is alot of help also, it tells you all about them and shows you different techniques on how to through an attack. Well I wish you luck and hope everything goes well for you let me know how you are doing and if you need to talk just post a message. shanalo :)

And I feel like a failure.. My husband gets panic attacks during day occassionally.. he just shrugs and says I'm having another one. and they go away eventually. I on the otherhand, dwell and get them at night while I am trying to sleep. So Panicky Insomniac that I am, I ran back to Paxil (after going through the withdrawl) because my family doctor will not prescribe anything else. And I can't get a Psychiatrist Appt. until the end of April. (First opening they had)So I feel kind of lost.
