Difficulty filling lungs with air

Danielle, why do you say "especially if the shortness of breath is at rest or after physical activity"? that kind of concerns me although I have not had that happen at all lately. I thought it would have been a normal withdrawl symptom especially after physical exertion. Max, I really feel terrible to say, but I never did go to the doctor about this. I had every intention on it over that first weekend, but by Monday I was better. It seems everything happens on a weekend. I did experience it again though and again. I don't know why this happened to me at 9 months. I guess everyone is different. I did read somewhere that this can happen and if I'm not mistaken its more common earlier on to experience this shortness of breath than later like myself. But, go to the doctor to make sure. Is your shortness all of the time, or just at times like mine was? I would also find that the more aware I was while it was happening, the more I would try to catch my breath. I think this made it worse for me. This would go on until I would fall asleep and I would wake up and realize I was breathing just normal and fine. And, I did not mention that most of the time it was at night when I was trying to fall asleep. Another thing is that it would mostly happen on Mon, Tues, and Thurs, nights after I had my jazzercise class. I think the heavy intense workouts would bring it on at times.I am happy to report now that after 131/2 months now of being smoke free, I do not experience this anymore at all. YEAH!!!! I am also happy to report that I lost all of my weight gain too. (Some of that was Katrina pounds after the storm though)I do have a sort of sore throat right now though. I may be coming down with something. Max, you did not give many details about how long you smoked, or your age, or if you have shortness of breath all of the time or some time. I'm not sure if Teppy is still around, since this was written back in March. However, max, if your doctor has checked you thoroughly, then it may be that you need to start building stamina. I think our lungs and breathing power can be weak just like any muscle. So you might think about adding in some exercise and increasing it a little every week to build up your lung strength. For instance you could walk 15 minutes a day this week and increase it to 20 minutes next week and increase the speed a little at a time too. Cigarettes Not Smoked

I'm not sure of the correct forum for this question, but will post here. I've just joined here today after finding this site. I quit on 6-9-05 and have done fine other than about 9 lbs. weight gain. My biggest concern right now is the inability to take a full breath at times. Why would this start happening now after going on 10 months? Is this normal? Welcome Teppy ! Have you had a cold or sinus problem or anything lately ? If so, it could be your chest carrying a bit of gunk.. If not, I think I would make a trip to the doctor.. shortness of breath may be nothing.. but may be serious too. I have shortness of breath when I push myself too hard.. thinking that I am invincible.. which I am not(yet). My doctor told me to practice breathing from my stomach area.. and not just lung area.. deeper breathing. 10 months that is wonderful.. many congrats !! Teppy, you should see a doctor as we are not medical professionals here. Teppy, It is a good idea to check with your doctor as you are doing. They will be able to rule our anything medical. Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
