Sorry I didn't make myself clear, I actually read the book after I started my quit but it helped so much with the mind control thing. The only thing I didn't agree with was going off the patch the way he recommmends, it was my personal choice. I was so afraid of failing yet again that I am using everything I can this time...I am going to do it no matter what. I hated to admit to myself how my I have lied to myself in that past years, the mind game we play with ourselves is scary. So now my mind is much clearer and I am no longer hiding the truth. I don't think we can put our email addresses on here but I will definitely talk any time you want. I am almost at a month and looking forward to many more of them without cigarettes. I also just had a friend in town and it was so great to go do things with her and not have to stop to find a place I could take a smoke break. She doesn't smoke and it really did get in the way before, it was awesome. Please post often and I am here any time you need. You can do this....we can do it together. Hey TwinsMomma, I too thought that those filthy things were my friend but after finding this site and reading the book by Allen Carr, Easy Way to Stop Smoking, I am no longer lying to myself. Read the book, it helped with the "mind" thing that we all do to ourselves. I was very good at putting up a big smoke screen for myself or just ignoring the real truth. It took me about 6 months to get ready for my quit. I cut way back in those 6 months and then went on the patch and before I am done with that I will be asking for a little more help. I was so afraid of failing that I decided I would do whatever necessary to make this quit my last one. Thank goodness I also found this site, it has helped me so much. We are all here and going through the same thing and WOW we have so many people to lean on that have been a non-smoker now for a long time. They inspire me and I know it can be done. You want this as much as I want this, it really is so beautiful what my life is like now that I don't smoke. I really can clean my house in much less time, I can get in my car and not smell that foul smell and don't have to ride with the windows down because I am smoking. You will find other things to replace this one thing. Please lean on us, we are here and we have great advice or just will listen anytime you want. Be strong....you can do it! I wrote a letter to my cigarettes, entitled goodbye my friend. When you start to write, it is really surprising what comes out. I had smoked since aged 15, I am 37 (38 next month) so it was fairly non stop for a long time. I realised that I didnt really like change. I just wanted to be me, I wanted to be happy, but just be a non smoker. Writing the letter was a huge release. I realised that cigarettes had been with me since i was aged 15, through good or bad times always it was there for me. When I wrote the letter, I cried, it let out so much energy.. I realised that there wasnt really anything to hold on to. Depression can sometimes be caused by feeling a loss of control over your life. It is a statistical fact, that a very high proportion of women that are treated for depression are also smokers (higher than the stats for men) What i realised was that smoking took away my contol over my life. Smoking made me feel out of control. Once i let the fear go, once i let it go... and i mean really let it go. Once i began to grieve it... really there is no going back. There is nothing to be scared of. There is everything to gain. The sense of freedom, the beauty of your skin, your increase in wealth in self confidence...these are just a few things... would you NOT want these things? Really? Twinsmomma: I felt the same way, too. Wellbutrin and the patch together have helped, but I still sometimes feel like I have lost my best friend. It has taken me 34 years to realize that a true friend wouldn't do to me what the cigarettes have. Congratulations on your decision to quit. Stay strong!

Hi Twinsmomma, You know, most of the people here at this site had fears and anxiety about quitting. But as an antidote there are lots of threads that are humorous while being really super helpful. Check out (Coping with Cravings Section) "Things that are sooo cool about giving up..."; another excellent one is "Your weirdest or funniest junky thought." in the General forum I think. You can do it twinsmomma. You have lots of external reasons to quit smoking (we all do) but in the end you need to do it for yourself, no-one else.
