going to go get cigs....help

18 years ago 0 607 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Elaine, dont do it. You will regret it and then its start all over again. Do you want to go through this once or more than once? I chose to go through it once and relied on this website to get me through it. You can do it even though you feel like there is no way. I just kept telling myself I wont go through this again so I better stay off the cigs and never take a puff. We are all family here!! Just keep posting and venting!! Elaine, if you really desire to stay quit you need to give it your ALL. Don't take the easy way out, because it is just prolonging the agony of going through quitting again. Once you have decided that you have quit and will stay quit than everything else is secondary to that committment. There is no crave so strong that can 'make' you go get cigs or smoke one no matter where you are or who you are with. Are you doing this for YOU? Think about why you decided to quit and read as much on this forum as you can and post away, vent likewise, just don't smoke. The crave will pass and all will be well. Do something positive that will start replacing the times you would smoke with a positive thing, like a walk outside to go watch the sunrise or sunset, or to just enjoy the day. Keep us posted please, you are doing so well, it is most definitely time for a reward! Think of something you want that you could buy with the money you would have spent on smokes, and go buy that thing for yourself. Spend a few packs worth, heck you are 4 days in that should cover something nice!! Many Blessings Sent Your Way! :) Eve My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 79 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 636 Amount Saved: $237 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 16 Mins: 31 Seconds: 24

This came from another post, but it is important to remember in times like this Elaine!!!
As long as your mind holds on to the fact that you might give in and let yourself have a cig, it will continue to hold out hope that your quit won't last (and the cravings that come with it will overwhelm you).
Please, please. please...... look in a different direction!!! Gather your coping mechanisms, and add some!! Take a break from this and reward yourself for your hard earned 4 days. It does get better, but you have to promise yourself that you will NOT light up. You will do anything, but smoking is not an option. Once you stop thinking about possibly lighting up, it gets easier. Re-read the quote. N.O.P.E. Not One Puff Ever Believe in yourself!! About every six months I have started over again for the last 10 years. For some reason I am really focused this time ? Journaling focusing on my accomplishments of non smoking and time between NRT doses . . . Screw the instructions I need to beat the Nicodemon . . . After giving in it has always taken me 3-6 months to restart Case in Point 12/30/2005 Cold Turkey 1/31/2006 bummed 1 . . . . . Restarted Next Quit attempt 6/25/2006t Was clean for 2 years 1994 - 1996 My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 248 Amount Saved: $49.5 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 15 Mins: 27 Seconds: 57

Hi Elaine... Day 4 huh? Yuk! Remember this feeling very well. May it be so awful that you never want to repeat it again as long as you live. Those first few weeks were abosolutely horrible for me and that has kept me from smoking a million times. I don't ever want to go through that again. Take some deep breaths, go ahead and shout, kick, puch a pillow, cry, break dishes or whatever it takes. Peppermints really helped me a lot. Every time I thought of smoking, I popped one in my mouth. You can do this. No it isn't easy but you can do it. Remember, every day is one day closer to never feeling this way again. Let us know how you are doing. We have been where you are and can help you if you let us.
