Junkie Thinking

15 years ago 0 130 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Wow!  This one really hit home with me - sorry, don't have the quote thing down as yet:

JUNKIE THINKING: "I really need to smoke now, I'm so upset."
RESPONSE: "Smoking is not going to fix anything. I'll still be upset, I'll just be an upset smoker. I never have to have a cigarette. Smoking is not a need; it's a want. Once the crisis is over, I'll be relieved and grateful I'm still not smoking."

Fits me to a tee with what's been going on with me recently.  Thank you all for keeping this one bumped up.

bj,

That's great! Frappucino's are very tasty and much better then a cigarette.

Keep it up!

Thanks for the bump.

Junkie thinking often runs rampant in any quit!

For example...

Junkie Thought: Quitting causes weight gain which is just as dangerous

Fact: Unless you gain over 100 pounds post-quit, the above statement is incorrect :)

Happy Quitting!

Even after a couple of years, these things keep me grounded in this quit My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 719 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 28,760 Amount Saved: $6,471.00 Life Gained: Days: 115 Hrs: 12 Mins: 42 Seconds: 13

I liked this part of the thread particularly because if this quit is going to work I will have to get round the junky thinking voice that tries to convince that I dont care. JUNKIE THINKING: "I don't care." RESPONSE: "What is it exactly that I think that I don't care about? Can I truthfully say I don't care about chest pain? I don't care about gagging in the morning? I don't care about lung cancer? No, I care about these things very much. That's why I stopped smoking in the first place." As I write it I remember being a child, how it never would have occured to me to smoke. it took a really smart sophisticated adult junky brain to do that!
