Loves2fish, Have distractions at the ready! Anything that keeps the mind and/or hands occupied! Have a reward system in place, it should have three components: a small one for after every craving, a medium on for after every smoke free day and a large one for the end of each smoke free weekend. Focus on yourself for the next few days and spoil yourself a little to get you through the day. Take a long bath, order in, take a nap, whatever it takes to make yourself feel better. Stay close, post often. We're here to help you through it! Danielle _______________________ The SSC Support Team

I felt the same way with the patch and I had to use the gum to quit. For me, it was the only thing that worked. It took 3 months but by the end, it was relatively pain free. I noticed that about once a week, I would get a day where the cravings were strong but after 2 months, that stopped too. I had to stay away from any alcoholic drinks because I associated that with smoking. I also stayed away from smokers during that time. When I finally was able to drink a glass of wine, I kept some gum on hnad just in case I got a craving. Now when I am around smokers, I tell myself how much it stinks and I try not to get too close to them because I don't want to breathe their smoke. Take one day at a time. Some of the things I did when cravings hit: brush my teeth and look at how much whiter they are, wash walls to remove smoke stains, go in my closet and smell how nice my clothes are now, go for walks, do stretching exercises, etc. Do ANYTHING to keep your mind busy. Tell yourself the craving will go away in about 10 minutes if you can just hang on. It WILL go away. Hi loves2fih! Start by planning your first reward- for making this decision! make sure you have something you want to do today that will keep you occupied as as far away from thoughts of smoking as possible. Something tells me you will be alright though because you are 17 days in , that is HUGE!! When I quit I knew I was quit, I'd had enough, totally. It was tough to go through the craves but I KNEW I was not smoking again. I felt awful and going through the withdrawl was worth it to be here today free of that. So you are going to be just fine! You will have some tough craves but we will be here every step of the way to help you through it. You seem to have a strong determination to committ to this so I know you are well on way to continued success! remember to come here and post if you are having one. Read the posts and work your coping skills on the program. Be prepared as suggested above with hard candies and such for your mouth and keeping your hands busy. You will be feeling great for sure very soon! Many Blessings Sent Your Way! Hi loves2fish - I did my Quit cold turkey... It's time for you to get that toolbox out and fill it full with coping skills for the worst craves, the worst times... What will you do? Who will you call? What are you going to do to distract yourself (my favorite coping skill!) Let's start the list now - of distractions for you - ready? 1) Call a friend 2) Come here and post (and read) 3) Journal how you are feeling 4) Come here and help someone needing support 5) Clean the house - I mean really clean - for example -get out an old toothbrush and clean the grout in the tub, the floors, clean like you have never cleaned before 6) paint a wall (another of my favs!) 7) go for a power walk 8) REWARD... they are so important...and cold turkey - well, REWARDS!! 9) a nice, hot bath with bath salts, candles and good smelling bubble bath 10) wrap yourself in your own compassion and hold on tight... You can do this... It's another road to the same destination. Just hold on tight and come here when you need support!!
