Want a cigarette so badly

I think because you have done so well for so long its almost like well I can have just one and it will be no big deal - dont do it as one is all you need to fall off the bandwagon. I dont think there is such thing as controled smoking as its always a mental thing - you are not physically craving it but your mental emotions are turning it into a physical craving. Think about how well you've done and dont spoil it as you will feel really bad afterwards if you do have one shaila

aubanki, Yes, I had a hard time at 6 months too. For many, that was the time of "freedom" when it really set in, but I was having a HORRIBLE time! I can tell you that just 3 short months later, I'm happier with my quit than I have ever been! I was one of the unfortunate ones who has had a really difficult quit. Breaking Free is right in part that if we think about it and romanticize the smoke, then we will have a harder time, but I think that it's more than that too. I had to just let time take it's course and let the cravings cease when they ceased and had to let go... no amount of conciously changing what I thought about seemed to work, although that's a very good suggestion and works for many. Just know that you're not alone and that many of us have gone through and continue to go through what you are going through now. But also, take comfort in knowing that even those of us who have had harder quits and have struggled emmensely STILL reach a time of freedom when the quit is comfortable! And I am now! And you will be too! Hurstk, don't be afraid! Yes, you will probably always have periods of cravings, but they won't last NEARLY as long as they are lasting now for you! It does get better and it does get comfortable! You might be one of the lucky few to not get any cravings at all later on, or you might be like me and get lots of them, but I promise you one thing... no matter how much you struggle with your quit, there is still comfort later on. It does get better... I promise you! Crave the Quit! Hi Aubanki This is stickin to it and rightly you should know that you should continue stickin to it. I had bouts of urges in month 5 that continued for two weeks. Not every minute just several times each day. I frankly don't know where they came from but they went away and have not returned. I think it must be that last hurray that the devil is trying to get you to commit. One thing I have found, I think more about cigaretts now since I joined this site just two weeks ago. I don't want a smoke, it just consumes more of my thoughts now then before, but hey, I'm happy. I want you to be happy too. So get your toolkit of trigger fighters out and use them to get you through these temporary urges. aubanki: Be Proud of your Quit. Celebrate it. Do not allow those nasty cravings to control you. You are free now. You are strong and can do it. I think if you train yourself with an action plan for what you will do when these cravings happen you can get beyond them/ cut them off. This too will pass. Be completely selfish and do it for you. Hi Katy, what a beautiful quit you have , i had to look twice at the meter..its fantastic. Your words are very encouraging. I never realized when i quit that there would be so many ups and downs, anguish, and on the other side pride, pride that this can be beat if you keep the right attitude, and protect your quit.... thanks for shareing jeanigirl My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/9/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 56 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 738 Amount Saved: $266 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 0 Mins: 13 Seconds: 47

Alot of great info here today. Great post from stockport1, i was at the Dr,s today because i felt as if i was sinking into a deep depression, im still early in my quit but i thought i was over the worst, as some of you know i did quit cold turkey, had a rough start. I felt good talking to the dr, hears the low down, he put me on zyban, which will help stimulate and balance the chemicals in the brain, which have been disrupted during all the years of my addiction, he said it is like a kick start and i should start to feel better soon, more like me.( the new me)i thought i was just going crazy.... he said just like smoking affects peoples brains differently so does the quit,he also said i may have had depression all my life but never new it because smoking masked it. The most important thing he said was to stay quit and together we will find a balnce and comfort level together. Wow... i will keep you posted.. all the best jeanigirl My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/9/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 54 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 713 Amount Saved: $256.5 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 19 Mins: 29 Seconds: 19

Hang in there and DO NOT SMOKE. Bring the excitement back into your quit. Be proud of yourself and what you have accomplished. Sometimes the excitement ends and you find yourself saying " this is it". Comw here often and see that we all have struggles throughout our journey to freedom, but FREEDOM is the ultimate goal and we must push past those hard times. Remeber this too shall pass.
