Hi Pink. It sounds like you have thought this out well and are prepared to leave if/when you want/need to. I think you will do well. Please let me know how you got along...I try my first big social outing the weekend after. Pinktexas, You're on the right track! Many members find it helpful to forego alcohol when in this situation for the very first time. Take some coping mechanisms with you and play out certain scenarios in your head before time. What will you do when tempted? Try to overcome this challenge, but if you become overwhelmed, removing yourself from it is a good option you always have available. Lastly, have a reward planned before you go to this cookout. It will give you something to work towards as you tackle this challenge. Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team

Pink - Protecting your quit with all you have IS top priority. Take your list of reasons with you and stay away from the smoke -- I will assume this will be outside so should not be too bad for you. Also, no alcoholic beverages will work for you too. Stay strong. Like Gonna says, if it gets bad, BAIL! I think you will be fine tho. *SMILES* CobenFan My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 180 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,071 Amount Saved: $630 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 17 Mins: 10 Seconds: 30

Dear Pink Good job on thinking this out before you go to the cookout. Thinking about how you will deal will help you protect your quit. I totally agree about the booze, I avoided booze for 2 months. I avoided bars for a month. Like you I avoided my smoking friends for a week or two. I promise Pink, this is all worth it and life does get on down the road! Have a good barbie!! Hello pinktexas - I am a cold turkey Quitter with no slips - and I learned some time ago to protect my Quit with everything I have, at all times... Make sure that above all else - your Quit is held up high, and kept and protected from any harm... Your Quit is like a small child... take good, loving and protective care of it and take the rule N.O.P.E. with you - if you do these two things and keep your guard up, you will be fine!
