Rusty,
I agree with you, but I didn't really do it that way. I think getting rid of everything would have required more effort than I was willing to put into it... I never got rid of any of my paraphenalia.
I have bought cigaretts on several occasions throughout my quit to destroy. I feel a sense of power over the addiction when I destroy the very thing that kept me a prisoner for so long. I still have lighters... not to smoke with, but for other purposes... candles, fire works on the 4th of July, etc... In fact, I still keep a lighter in my purse at all times... not that I'm going to use it to smoke... it's more of a reminder of the life that I USED to have that I don't want to have anymore.
I didn't have cigarettes on me when I first quit, and all of the times I bought them, I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that I wouldn't smoke. I agree that keeping cigarettes "just in case" is a pretty dumb... I can think of several occasions where if I'd had one, I most certainly would have smoked it! So I agree with you there... but I think that if I looked hard enough in my apartment, I could probably find an ash tray or two or three... now granted, I'd REALLY have to search for them, but I probably have some... and I know I have at least one lighter in my purse. You're right... it's probably not the best thing to do, but I just never got rid of mine... They're reminders to me of who I used to be... and who I don't ever want to be again.
Crave the Quit!
Pam
