Mama failed. Smoked. Start over

17 years ago 0 772 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Oh Mama I am so sorry to hear this. I was going to write is there anyway that you can get your daughter to remove cigarettes from the house. If she can quit too that is great. Dont give up giving up. You will have learnt something from your quit this time. Write it down whilst it is still fresh in your mind. Also write down how you feel about smoking yesterday. You are not a failure. You have learnt something from this, dust yourself off, and get some help to quit. Whether that is in the form of NRT or something else, it has to be better than going through what you have just gone through. I am sorry that i didnt get to speak to you yesterday. Mama, its OK sweetie! I probably would have smoked already if my hubby didn't actually keep his cigs in his pocket around here. He knows I'd probably go looking. I also don't think I'd feel this good without the wellbutrin. I know that you DO want to quit, or you wouldn't have come right back here and told us. We have faith in you, you should too. Try, try again. Your friends here understand! Mama, I know how horrible you feel but from here you need to decide what you want to do. Do you want to be a smoker? We won't give up on you unless the answer to that question is Yes. When you say that maybe you should give up this quit or on yourself it sounds to me like junky talk. We're all addicts here so you're in good company but it does mean that not much can get past us. Whenever I've used that language it's meant I'm talking myself into smoking again as though it's out of my control somehow...? It is not out of your control. I hope that your daughter quits with you because it's always great when another smoker decides to quit but if she's going to she needs to understand nicotine. If her only motivation is financial or short term it will be a miracle if she keeps it up. Secondly though, while I totally agree that your house should be totally smokefree your quitting cannot rely solely on her quitting. Your quit needs to be built on your own solid foundations. Mama it sounds like you need to really think back to the last weeks that you smoked full time and how you felt then. 16 days involves and alot of battles won! You've shown already you can win them! It's not out of our control it's just hard and we're not used to saying no. Throughout our smoking lives that's exactly what we don't do. It's totally normal to feel like you can't even remember why you quit in the first place. Our brains are conditioned to forget the bad stuff otherwise we wouldn't survive. Why do you think some people end up smoking after years quit...because they've forgotten the pain of smoking and of quitting! Can you imagine forgetting the pain quitting???? Not at the moment I'm sure! Anyway it's abit of a ramble. I hope that you decide to treat it as a slip and part of your recovery process...i.e. understanding your addiction better. But if you decide that you want to be a smoker again then that shouldn't be something you feel bad about. Your heart will tell you what to do. Take care of yourself and don't beat yourself up too much. I guess I failed and I smoked tonight. I am going to start again now but I am going to use patches. I also decided to tell my daughter that if she will quit with me and get rid of all the cigs in the house i will help pay for her to drive. I know she will do it then, this is a discussion that we have already had. i need the cigs out of the house completely. I can't quit with them here. I had patches here all along and I have some lozenges too and it probly would have been a better choice to go that way but it is not the choice I made. It's too late now, the nicotine is already back in my body, so I am going to bed and I will put a patch on. I am feeling very discouraged because I have also tryed the patches before too. I do want to be a non smoker, but maybe not bad enough. I'm not really sure if I should just give up and go buy some cigs or not. I had 16 days, and not all of it was totally horrible. But I also havn't had a lot of the feeling of pride or feeling physically better like a lot of people. I'm not sure what to do. I reset my meter, and I'm going to get up and put on a patch right away, maybe even when my snooze goes off to give it time to work before I actually get up. At least I have gotten used to not smoking when I get up so maybe that will help. I understand if you all give up on me. Maybe I should give up on myself too. Hi Mama , I'm so sorry to hear that you slipped. Don't let it keep you down. You are strong enough to do this. You already proved that with 16 days. You do have what it takes. You do! Mama, Come on! Don't give up! We'd never give up on you... good luck getting rid of us, were pretty hard to shake. lol. You've experienced a slip, you're going right back to quitting. You don't need to reset your meter, you've gone smoke free for 16 days, that doesn't get wiped out by one cigarette. Kudos on getting your daughter to jump on the quitting bandwagon. I'm sure that will help. Keep persevering... YOU CAN DO THIS! One step at a time, things will get better. You need to focus on your accomplishments and what you do enjoy about being a non smoker. Everybody' quit is different, it may just take you a little longer to see the full effects of yours. Check back soon, Danielle _________________________________________ The SSC Support Team

Mama, I know that half this site will probably disagree, put I feel that trying to quit without patches is a bit of a tall order. I'm sure I couldn't have got here without them and perhaps you're like me too. You are NOT a failure; this is just a blip. The fact that you've come back here to tell us this indicates that you have got the inner strength to win. Take care and look after your quit Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 125 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,756 Amount Saved: 937.5 Life Gained: Days: 20 Hrs: 21 Mins: 6 Seconds: 8
