Mama failed. Smoked. Start over

Hi Mama- Wow, some really great advice here :) Your daughter may or may not Quit - and as Pam said, your Quit is YOURS... If she decides not to Quit (quitting for the wrong reasons won't work) maybe setting some boundaries with her may support you. Decide what works and doesn't work for you regarding your Quit. Stand for your truth, whatever that truth is. Depression... there are also natural remidies. Do some deep soul searching, Mama- what are your reasons for quitting, what will you do on the challenging days, on the impossible days? Did you do the program on the left? Do you want to Quit smoking more than you want to light up, even on your worst days? And... what will make your new Quit different than the one you lost... Find some clarity on how and why you lost this quit, as that will support your new forever Quit!! I see that Sunshine has the non-smoking stage coach at your door... take your time and make your decision - yuo know what to do. Hi Mama, I'm so sorry that you lost your quit, but I don't think that you would be here reaching out if you didn't want to quit. We all know that quitting is one of the hardest thing to do, or it was for me. Mama, I used the patches, and they worked wonderful for me, but I have no one in my home that smokes. But doesn't mean I didn't have some hard time...I couldn't have done it without the patches. Well, the non smoking stage coach is pulling up to your house right now so come on and get in and start this journey again. We are all here for you, and want to see you succeed. So take our hand and we will do this quit together. You are part of our family, and anytime one of our family hurts, we all hurt. I look forward to your posts telling us about your success. :) Be blessed, Sunshine My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 162 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,763 Amount Saved: $567 Life Gained: Days: 23 Hrs: 9 Mins: 6 Seconds: 17

MAMA No giving up on you here. Keep on keeping on. Pick yourself up and dust yourself off and start again. You learned something form the last days and you have been calling out for help. If you need to do this with counselling and NRT's and this site and the support of your daughter, find it, get it and keep on quitting. You will notice benefits as you go along they may be small and you may have to hunt for them and they are there, and everyday isn't as you say horrible. Please don't give up on yourself, and please don't quit quitting. Looking forward to hearing from you today. Givng up is easier than starting over but it is far less gratifying. Focus on your successful days ad pick up the will power and start again. ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 147 Amount Saved: $68.25 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 6 Mins: 50 Seconds: 26

Mama. My heart goes out to you. You have not failed. You are still quitting. Do not be so quick to give up this fight for your life.
But I also havn't had a lot of the feeling of pride or feeling physically better like a lot of people.
That was me early in the quit. Everyone else was talking about how good they felt and how wonderful it was to be smoke free and I was in tears, angry at the world and feeling like I was going to lose my mind. You are not alone. A lot of people feel this way. Everyone's quit is different. Day 14 was the absolutely worse day of the entire quit for me. I was ready to give up quitting. It just didn't seem like I wanted it bad enough to survive or be successful. My dad smokes and I had access to cigarettes at any time. I will share with you what worked for me. The people on this site. I posted, they responded. I would post, I'm lonely, I'm scared, I want to smoke, I need to talk, I'm angry...and each and every time I posted someone was there. I whinned, kicked, screamed and fought tooth and nail. Strangers reached out their hands to me and took the time to care. That is what made the difference for me. N.O.P.E. is the other thing that worked for me. Not one puff ever. To this day mama, if I ever have one puff the quit is over for me and I will smoke for the rest of my life. That thought scares me enough not to take that first puff. As long as I don't take that next puff I've got it made and so do you. Grab my hand and let's travel on down this road less traveled that leads us along the Quit Journey. It is an amazing life changing, soul searching journey that you really don't want to miss. It is a journey that will change your life for the better. I promise. You CAN do this and you will be so glad you did. I am going to bump a thread in the general forum for you called Don't give up on yourself. Please read it. Mama, Nobody's giving up here... especially not you! I know you want this quit, so fight for it! Fight with everything you've got because you're fighting for your LIFE here!!! Isn't that worth it! Don't you deserve a life without stinking, and coughing and wasting your money? Don't you deserve to live longer to be there with your family? YES YOU DO!!! I agree that it would be great if your daughter quits, but this quit must be for you. It's too easy to give up if the person you quit with gives up, so you have to want this quit badly enough to keep it regardless of whether your daughter quits or stays quit or not. This is YOUR quit. Have you tried Wellbutrin or Zyban? They are depression medications that have been proven to help people quit smoking, and if depression is a difficult symptom of the quit for you, you might consider talking to your doctor about going on one of these medications. Mama, the only way to quit is to quit. You cannot smoke and be quit. If you allow yourself to "slip" every now and then, then you are only making it harder on yourself to actually stay quit. The more a person slips, the easier it is for their minds to convince them later that it's OK to smoke. I know... I've been there. It's only when you fully commit to N.O.P.E. that you can quit successfully. You must tell yourself daily "today, I won't smoke" and stick with it. It does get easier after a while, but you have to put in the effort first. Hang in there and don't ever give up on yourself! We won't, so you can't either!!!!! Crave the Quit! Mama - The people who ultimately quit are the ones who try and try again until it works for them. I fall into that category. I can't tell you hom many times I tried and failed before this quit. Do what you need to do, get your head on straight and try again. You CAN do it. Mama, I'm sorry that you smoked. I know you feel bad about it. But you didn't fail and you need to get those negative words out of your vocabulary. You posted yesterday that you are feeling depressed. May I gently suggest that, in conjunction with your new quit, you also talk to your doctor about that? Good luck. You know we will all be here for you.
