I remember reading the Allen Carr book, he recomended going to the pub, and watching people that smoke - watch them smoke one after the other, watch them get the filthy things down their neck... ugh You know for me, that really helped. As it shows that you are stronger than the cigarette, that your quit is more important. Weekend coming up, so be on your guard, dont let yesterdays success, put down your guard so much that you end up smoking. Well done, congratulations, you are doing brilliantly!! Thanks to all of those that have been supportive. I thought i should update you on what happened last night. I went out to a pub and had a couple of pints, maybe against my best interests of the quit, but i was very stressed and wanted to relax. Despite all of this.....I DID NOT SMOKE!!! I am so glad of this and have actually realised that i am more determined than i thought!! I did want a cigarette last night, but i took some advice from all those that have posted before. I took a deep breath, thought about it, and then realised it would achieve nothing, and destroy all the work i have done so far! So here i am, 3 full days in of non-smoking, onto my 4th, and with a visit to a pub and a couple of pints behind me! Honestly the thought of having a couple of pints without a cigarette a month ago would have been impossible. Crave the quit!! I am well into my 3rd day without a cigarette and i feel absolutely fine. Apart from a couple of times i have had minor cravings and been able to deal with everything that has been thrown at me. However, i have developed a number of side effects that i can only put down to the fact that i am no longer smoking! I wake up each morning very very tired, and the bags under my eyes seem much more pronounced even though my sleeping pattern has not been altered at all. Also i have started to develop spots as well! Could this just be the nicotine withdrawl affecting me? Alos would be good to have some advice on how i am going to cope with this weekend! It is my friends 21st, and i will be spending it with him some mates, and they all smoke. I am not bothered about that, as can cope with it. However i know i will end up drinking for it, and am scared that it might lower my inhibitions and i will smoke. I cant not drink for his birthday........not sure what to do... YAY!! Well Done Kolativey! Yes we should sooo be looking at these situations as challanges to BE BEAT & PROVE our strength & resolve NOT to give in & protect our quits!! Yay!! Im going out next weekend & I KNOW i'll be fine. Im looking forward to seeing if I to drink less, have a feeling I will & NO hangover!! Wahooo!! hehe :)

Hey Kolativey!! Congrats on the 3 days!! You sound like you're very much in control! I felt very similar to you last weekend & didnt end up going out. But you should'nt have to miss your friends 21st!! Just keep in mind that alcohol (& any other Mind-Altering substance)can & will do that exact job & mess with your head & change your steadfast ideas of wanting to quit & wanting a better life for yourself. Maybe limit the drinks, tell friends not to let you have any smokes??? My back up plan is to have nicotine gum & im guessing that alone will make me feel sick!! Stay stong & healthy :)

Awesome Kolatively. I also had some drinks early in my quit and was worried the partying me wouldn't be as rational and determined as the sober me, and I was wrong. It was very satisfying to know I could be in a social, drinking situation and not smoke. Made me feel more like, yeah!, I'm a non-smoker!!!!!! Very empowering. We can't get too cocky though, never slip, not one puff ever... I also found that I drank less, and made me realize that in the past I was drinking because I was smoking and smoking because i was drinking, perpetually. Taking the smoking away and the drinking slows down.... It's still fun to go out and live your life and be social and talk crap and act stupid and flirt and giggle and all, but for me, doing it as a non-smoker and the hangovers aren't even that bad...and i find myself going to the gym the next morning! Go figure. I would not be drinking that early in your quit. But that is just me. I tried at around 30 days ... I didn't smoke ... but the temptation was strong. Hi kolativey - Only you can decide, but is it really a good idea to put your Quit at risk? Your Quit is very vulnerable right now, and there are many posts here about alcohol and losing a Quit. Please make sure to read some of them so you are aware of what some of us have experienced when we thought we would be 'fine' drinking... This is a time to protect your Quit w/everything you have day and night. Hold it up high if there is any danger of it being hurt, and be as aware as possible that you are very vulnerable right now, whether you realize it or not. As long as you don't light up, you will be fine! Kolativey, Sleeping patterns, tiredness and bags under your eyes are quite normal and will adjust to your new, smokefree life in time! Bear with it! Be happy with the spots!!! They are part of the detox process as your body expels the poisons. I had them and I think we all did. Just remember every large zit is one step nearer to a cleaner, freer life!!! They too will end in time. As for the weekend social, be VERY, VERY careful. Some have lost quits for good by trying to tackle that other known demon, alcohol, too early. If you have any doubt, don't go. If you are confident, go enjoy yourself and don't smoke!!! Good Luck Penitent d758
