Help with patches and shift work

18 years ago 0 61 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Advice needed, Hubby wants to quit with me but does shift work. We are both using the patches but dont know wether to use the 16hr ones or the 24hr ones for him. He works a rotating roster and no day or week is ever the same. I think the 16hr patches will be too hard for him to manage and wont provide the correct support for him. However, I do know that the patches arnt good to wear to bed. He can be awake for a whole 24hr period some days. I think that the 24hr patches would be best for him and he can take it off a couple of hrs before he goes to bed maybe. Very confused. What do you all think. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. By the way, where is everyone from. Im from Oz!!

You don't have to take it off a couple of hours before you go to bed, you can take it off right before you close your eyes and the nicotine will taper off as you go to sleep. Then when the first alarm goes off, slap one on, hit the snooze and go back to sleep. Then when you get up for real, it's already working. I am not using patches this time because I feel that for me they were just delaying the inevitable. I started back between the 2nd and 3rd steps. I want to get it over with right away. Patches do make me comfortable at first though. Hi mummy22, Me & my hubby are quitting as well. We live in the Blue Mountains NSW! I do shift work and it can be challenging when you're chucking the ciggies. But I've made it through a few overnight shifts now and getting stronger every day. I don't use the patches - I use the Nicorette microtabs. This is a great site full of really supportive people, and the tools in the glovebox are excellent. take care chickstarr :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 16 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 509 Amount Saved: $200 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 9 Mins: 47 Seconds: 51

Hi Mummy22 I would recommend you family doctor in this matter, he/she is the best authority to help you make this decision in accordance to your medical history. I do believe the 24hr may be better suited for your husband, however he must make the decision for himself. If he's experiencing side effects as a result of wearing the patch, then again consult your family doctor. A lower dose may be needed or a different method maybe should be used. Hope this helps. I would have him do the 24 hour since his schedule is wacky! He can take it off right before bed and should be fine!
