FINALS ARE THE WORST

Hi all So I woke up this morning with a strong desire to smoke, but instead I am distracting myself with this site (very useful). I am in my last semester of college and have 3 huge research papers to write in the next week or so! I know that I can do this without having to smoke, I know I can. I think that the part that I am having trouble with is the breaks...I used to have a smoke once every hour or two and it was a little five minute break from reading or whatever I was studying. I need a plan before I get started with my paper for the day....peppermints?? All powerful peppermints (sugarfree because I want like 25 of them!)will keep me strong. good luck and godspeed. kat My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/24/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 10 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 209 Amount Saved: $50 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 16 Mins: 38 Seconds: 50

kat, I know exactly what you mean. When I worked on papers I would write for an hour, print off the paper, go outside and have a smoke and do my corrections, then come back in and fix the corrections. I found writing after quitting to be so much more difficult. I tried lots of things, but ended up taking those same breaks and eating a candy bar or drinking a small coffee. It's not the same, but who ever heard of dying from a snickers? Congrats on quitting. it will make looking for a job much easier. employers don't want to smell smoke when you walk in.

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hey kat - sounds like you're going through as quit! The smokes were self medication and a coping mechanism for you before. You'll find a replacement that's a lot more healthy I'm sure. I'm a computer programmer/analyst. When I'd reach a break point I'd go smoke. What I did was get a 10 pound dumbell and I keep it in my office. Now when I hit a break point I drink a V8 and I curl the dumbell for a few minutes. before I know it I'm ready to go back to work and I have no urge to go smoke. Side benefit - my arms are looking good! Now if I could just get rid of this gut of mine.... hang tough - you can do it. Kat, 10 days is great! Make a list of distraction techniques. Pick one every time you need a break :) This will help you resist the temptation and push you forward. Keep Strong, Josie ______________________ The SSC SUpport Team.
