really want a smoke

Yes, I reckon that's going to be my problem too. Let us know how you do manage to get through. How did you survive the urge the last time cigarettes were tapping on your shoulder? Good luck. I think you are a legend for getting through this far! Julie - I know how hard it is to deal with that mental fight. This is from ROB47's post in another section. The thread itself is right here: http://www.stopsmokingcenter.net/support/viewmessages.aspx?forum=12&topic=28384 It has really helped me. I printed it out and have it right in front of my face at work. Especially this line: Smoking is not going to fix anything. I'll still be upset, I'll just be an upset smoker. This is what he has in that post: JUNKIE THINKING: "One Puff won't hurt" RESPONSE: "One puff will always hurt me, and it always will because I'm not a social smoker. One puff and I'll be smoking compulsively again." JUNKIE THINKING: "I only want one." RESPONSE: "I have never wanted only one. In fact, I want 20-30 a day every day. I want them all." JUNKIE THINKING: "I'll just be a social smoker." RESPONSE: "I'm a chronic, compulsive smoker, and once I smoke one I'll quickly be thinking about the next one. Social smokers can take it or leave it. That's not me." JUNKIE THINKING: "I'm doing so well, one won't hurt me now." RESPONSE: "The only reason I'm doing so well is because I haven't taken the first one. Yet once I do, I won't be doing well anymore. I'll be smoking again." JUNKIE THINKING: "I'll just stop again." RESPONSE: "Sounds easy, but who am I trying to kid? Look how long it too me to stop this time. And once I start, how long will it take before I get sick enough to face withdrawal again? In fact, when I'm back in the grip of compulsion, what guarantee do I have that I'll ever be able to stop again?" JUNKIE THINKING: "If I slip, I'll keep trying." RESPONSE: "If I think I can get away with one little "slip" now I'll think I can get away with another little "slip" later on." JUNKIE THINKING: "I need one to get me through this withdrawal." RESPONSE: "Smoking will not get me through the discomfort of not smoking. It will only get me back to smoking. One puff stops the process of withdrawal and I'll have to go through it all over again." JUNKIE THINKING: "I miss smoking right now." RESPONSE: "Of course I miss something I've been doing every day for most of my life. But do I miss the chest pain right now? Do I miss the worry, the embarr

I hate to say it, but your right. I lost a 16 month quit last year. In fact, it can be dangerous in a different way b/c you get that "high" from the ciggy, and you can only have one...or at least that's what it seems like. The truth is you may only smoke one a week, then its one every third day, then before you know it that beast is as large as it was on day 1. Hang in there. don't smoke. Use all the power you have to not give in. Once the junkie thinks he sees a kink in your armor he'll wake up and go right for it. Julie, Use your coping tools you used in the beginning. Don't give in. You know how awesome the freedom from the enslavement of smoking is. You really don't want to revisit that horrible feeling of not being able to function without a smoke. I think there will always be times when we "think" about smoking but it is just that, a thought. Dismiss it, don't entertain it any longer and move on with your smoke free life. What an awesome quit you have! Julie, Why did you quit smoking? REMIND yourself. How bad was the first week? the second? REMIND yourself. What were your coping tools? REPEAT yourself. How proud are you of your success? REWARD yourself. Congratulations on one year quit!! REWARD yourself!!! ~lbugg~ Oh...and did I mention how important it is to reward yourself? :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 411 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 21,807 Amount Saved: $2712.6 Life Gained: Days: 40 Hrs: 1 Mins: 54 Seconds: 50

Julie, ask yourself will smoking a cigarette relieve your stress or change anything that's happening in your life. Ask yourself if you want to give up 396 days and more than 7,000 cigarettes NOT SMOKED? Don't do it, Julie. Come here instead!
