When I was a smoker, I used to drive with my hand out of the window, mainly because I didn't want my nice new car smelling of horrible cigarette smoke. How ironic is that? Hi Mama, For you at the moment, any situation where you used to smoke is going to be hard. I remember in my first week that there were so many instances where I would reach for my cig pack 'on autopilot' Yes, it is hard, but fear not! - this stage will pass soon And .. day by day things do get better Tomorrow you can look back at 1 day's Quit - the hardest day! Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 108 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,261 Amount Saved: 810 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 3 Mins: 0 Seconds: 42

That was tough for me! Evevrytime I would even get in my car I would light up...even if it had only been 5 minutes in the store...and I had just smoked before I went in! Its a tough habit to break but with effort and time we can do it. I believe in you! HOLD ON!!! Hello Mama, It's tough - this was the ciggie I missed the most at first, the after work driving home smoke. It's lasted pretty long for me (a month or so), you just have to change the radio station and fidget a lot in the car. Pay attention to the road tho! I talked on my cell phone a lot to my husband who was going through the same thing. It gets better - Although I must admit I have a little more road rage :8o: than I used to LOL. I yell at people - Hey I Don't Smoke Anymore!!!!! (beats cussing!) I also cleaned up car and tucked great smelling dryer sheets under all the seats so a nice smell is wafting through there. You will conquer this, like the rest of the quit, it takes time and patience. I know, Mama! I'm off to a fraternity reunion which is 3 1/2 hours away and I smoked through the whole trip and reunion weekend last year. Fortunately, hardly on of the "brothers and sisters" smoke so that won't be so bad. But this drive will be the first of any length. I'm sure I'll be craving, but I know I won't be smoking! ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 103 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,140 Amount Saved: $927 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 0 Mins: 5 Seconds: 50

Mama, I can totally relate to wanting to smoke while driving!!! That used to be my favorite time to smoke, but like Breanna said, that trigger goes away soon after you quit. The triggers that we have to face the most often, and the ones that are usually the biggest temptations because we have to encounter them a lot, are the ones that die quicker. The more times you face a situation without smoking, the easier it becomes later. Now, I NEVER think about smoking while driving... but that was a very difficult trigger for me to overcome too. What I did was I used Twizzler Pull n' Peel licorice as my false cigarette. They have the same resistance of a cigarette, and taste better than a straw cut in half! :) I held that in my "smoking hand" while driving. I even "ashed" it too. That really helped me get through the drives. I also listened to my favorite music and sung as loud as I could... you can't smoke while singing, so I sang as much as I could (good thing I was alone in my car!!!! LOL!) and that also works as a good distraction. Best wishes on your first day! Crave the Quit! Hi, Mama. Congrats on your first day quit. One thing that worked for me was yelling at the crave. That's right. I'd yell at it, telling it that it had no power over me, could not make me smoke, was wasting its time, might as well just go away, yada, yada. It worked for me. As a bonus, drivers around me that noticed would just back off. Look at that nut case, Marge. He just might start shooting!! LOL Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 374 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,492 Amount Saved: $1421.2 Life Gained: Days: 69 Hrs: 20 Mins: 8 Seconds: 42
