Day One

Hi, From my perspective, I found it not too bad. However, you may notice increased cravings when dropping to lower levels of patches. Anyway, I've now done 10 weeks and never thought I would last out the first day. It does get better - good luck!

Thanks for all your support and input. I have tried cold turkey in the past but obviously didn't work, too aggravated and edgy. Hopefully the patch achieves 3 things, 1 - take the edge off, 2 - knowing you can't smoke with it on and even when taken off have to wait a couple of hours and by what every one says here most urges last about ten minutes. 3(the most important one) keeps me smoke free. thanks for the support

Here I go, the patch is going on, have my water and sunflower seeds ready. From reading on here hopefully prepared enough for from what I read on here is called hell week. Any other ideas or words of encouragement would be appreciated.

Hi rekud, Welcome and congratulations on your decision to save your life...What a big decision, but it will be one that you won't regret. You made another good choice by coming to SSC, you will find the support that you need. If you need help all you have to do is post just like you did today. There is someone here 24-7, isn't that wonderful... We're all in different time zones and that makes it nice. I used the patches and found them very helpful, I didn't go through what we call HELL WEEK, I wore them for 10 weeks, when I took them off had a few small cravings but not bad. The best of luck to you, and we will all be watching you grow and grow. Hi Rekud and welcome to the SSC. The greatest place on earth to quit smoking. Be sure to drink a lot of water and take deep breaths. Quitting isn't easy but ride it out because it is so worth it. I wouldn't trade my quit for anything in the world. Welcome to the first day of your smoke free life! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 298 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,968 Amount Saved: $1043 Life Gained: Days: 26 Hrs: 7 Mins: 12 Seconds: 27

Rekud - I used the patches. I just dropped to the 14mg patch yesterday. I did not experience a hell week. It was not easy, but it was not total anguish either. It was very manageable with the patch. If you start to feel really tense try to work it off somehow. You may even consider talking to the doctor about an anti-anxiety med to help you in the early stages. I believe in using any weapon to win this war. Good luck - keep us posted please. rekud, Take it day by day and move slowly. Keep occupied and distracted and don't let the idle time slip in. You need to have your coping mechanism ready and you will fair well. Post often and let us know if we can assist you, Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
