First Thing in the Morning

Something that I've found that helps me beat my morning craving back (and if you smoke menthols, this may not work for the same reason it worked for me) is mentholated cough drops. I am a non-mentholated, full flavor kind of smoker. There were a few times when I would be out places and I would run out of smokes, and have to bum one from a kindly stranger. I decided I really was an addict when I smoked a "Virginia Slims Super Slim 120 menthol" that I bummed off of a grandmotherly type lady. I -hate- the taste of mentholated cigarettes, but when you are fiending, beggers can't be choosers. I discovered when I had a sore throat that smoking while sucking on a halls was a lot worse to me than smoking a menthol. (In retrospect, that should have been a hint I was addicted too..) So, the key to the morning craving for me is a sugar free cough drop. It takes about 5 minutes or so to disolve it, and a bit longer than that for the menthol taste to go away. As a bonus, they help with the smoker's cough I have. Stay in there, just keep your eyes, mind, and spirit on the goal. Breaking the addiction.

I get up in the morning, put on a pot of coffee and jump in the shower while it is brewing. I feel so much cleaner now that I do not smoke. It's funny. I was at my sister's house the other day and I was waiting for her to get ready so that we could go out. She took an hour to take a shower, blow dry her hair, put on her make-up, spray perfume...and as soon as she was done she went outside and smoked a cigarette. I thought to myself, God I used to do that also! To think you spend all that time getting pretty just to smell disgusting after a cigarette. I used to smoke 4 cigarettes just getting ready to go to work in the morning. Then I would spray myself with perfume and pop in a piece of gum before walking in to the office. Now, I feel so much better and less embarrassed about the way I smell from smoking.

I'm a morning smoker..with coffee and a stare.. I had quit once for a year and a half...In the beginning it was very tough. I placed my coffee pot on top of the china cabinet..and did without that too..I see cigarrettes and coffee a marriage..later I was able to have my coffee with the expecentancy of a cigarrette. Allt his took place in about 1991, nine months was when I was pregnant. I never could stand a smoke when I was in this delicate condition,,haha..then a home fire.and husband in hospital in coma..these are the excuses..I started back..

I am quiting in a few days and need some advice from people who are morning smokers. I'm sure I am not the only one who does this. Every morning I get up 30 minuits early and drink coffee, sit stare and smoke. I don't know how I am going to cope with mornings. I am too groggy and out of it to do exersize or anything. What did you do?

In the mornings ... I loved my coffee and smokes too. I am not a morning person either. I was not about to give up my coffee though. I love gourmet coffee. My plan was this: Get up and get RIGHT IN THE SHOWER ... first thing. AFTER I get ready I get my cup of coffee. This plan has worked for me. The shower wakes me up. Being all clean and fresh and not smelling of smoke is something I am really enjoying. So when I go get my coffee the last thing on my mind now is a smoke. Hi Mama, I worried about this to - and guess what? The SSC became my new habit. No smoking with the coffee, just reading and posting. I join them every morning still and then I watch TV and catch up on weather, news, etc. It really was not as hard as I thought it would be and it helps prepare you for a day of no smoking encouragement. I'm excited for you to begin your quit. You will find what works for you in the tough times.
