mama, I just made a post for you called "Mama Wants to Know".
True addicts -- as we all are -- must have their fix first thing in the morning. Why? Because you've gone without your drug for all those hours you were asleep and now you're going through withdrawal. So, you smoke and you feel so great. Ahhhh, I feel good...smoking is so pleasurable. HAHA! The joke is on us...smoking is pleasurable because it stops our withdrawal!
So we develop this routine...get up, smoke, coffee, sit. How do you get over that? By delaying that first smoke. Just delay it. Get up. Don't smoke. Go do something else for a while. Drink tea instead. Trying taking a shower before you smoke. Brush your teeth before you smoke. Walk outside and breathe before you smoke. Delay it.
As with any trigger -- driving, eating, etc. -- if you can do this for a few days, you will break that trigger. Your lizard brain will unlearn that habitual behavior. If you smoke in the car, same thing. Do a few drives without smoking. Your subconscious will get the message after a bit.
My husband still smokes. So he does the sit, smoke, coffee, stare routine every morning. While he's sitting, smoking, staring and drinking coffee, I've washed a load of clothes and answered emails and taken a shower.
Rusty :)
