Thanks everyone for the kind words. I'm on day 44 and still going strong. I had a few cravings over the weekend, but nothing that I couldn't handle. This morning I walked pass a couple of people who were smoking outside the entrance. It didn't cause a trigger or craving, but I did notice how strong the smell of smoke is. I also know when my coworker goes for a smoke, because I can smell him from my desk which is two cubicles away. I never realized how strong the cigarette smoke really is. All this time I thought no one would notice.

Hi everyone. I have recently quit smoking too and I though I'd join a support group, so here I am. I recently quit a month and a half ago and I feel great about it. I still get mild cravings, but I can now shake it off. Now a little about my journey. I'm 31 years old and have been smoking for 15 years. I have tried to quit many times, but never really stuck it out. The longest I have gone without a smoke was 2 months, and that was only because I was in boot camp. I have tried everything from patches to hypnosis, but I still continue to smoke. I have finally come to a point in my life that I realize that this is not going to be easy and that I must have the desire and determination to quit. That week I visited my doctor and he happily prescribed me Zyban again. Unfortunately, my insurance wouldn't cover it, so I shelled out 115.00 for a one month supply. Regardless of the cost, it was the best investment I made. I started using zyban three days before my quit date. I decided not to use any nicotine substitutes since it will only delay my withdrawals. The first week was really tough, but I was proud of myself for getting through it. It is now week 6 since I've quit and so far so good! I joined a gym, started lifting and runnning again, and I definitely notice changes since I have quit. My sense of smell and taste has improved substantially. I can breath easier and can run a mile without a shortness of breath. I feel so much better and healthier than I have felt in 10 years. I just bought another 1 month supply of zyban and hopefully after I finish this bottle, I won't need another refill. The biggest challenge that will test me is that I will be heading to Las Vegas for 4 days to attend a bachelor party next month! Many of my friends smoke, so it is going to be a challenge. I feel confident that I can fight any temptation, but it doesn't help when you're in a smoking environment. Anyway, I wish those that quit success. Those that have quit, great job and keep up the good work! Rdumlao Congratulations on your 41 days of freedom -- Finally, somebody with the same quit date as me!!!! Oh - and that officially makes you a March quitter and around here we are known as the Smogfree Shamrocks!!! Welcome to the SSC - it's a great and encouraging place to be. Sounds like you're doing well despite not having a prescription card :( Be VERY careful about Vegas that's a HUGE challenge so early in your quit. I know I could not handle a weekend in Vegas at this point, so best to you and of course - have a great time. You said you feel so much better and healthier than you have in 10 years. Keep that in mind while you are protecting your quit! rdumlao, Welcome to SSC, and congratulations on those big 41 days. You will find lots of support and encouragement here. It sounds like you have the determination and a good attitude, believe me you will need both. Stay close to the site and post and read. When you need help please post and there is someone always here. I don't know about the trip to Vegas, you will have to be the judge of that. You know your strengths and weakness, will there be drinking at this party? The reason I ask is, drinking is a bad way to loose your quit. Because your judgment is out of order!!!!
I feel confident that I can fight any temptation, but it doesn't help when you're in a smoking environment.
I feel a little doubt in that quote, and yes it will be the biggest challenge you have faced so far. We will forward to many posts from you and especially when you return from Vegas telling us: I MADE IT!!!!! AND I AM SMOKE FREE.... Hello Rdumlao, I love Your story and the great determination You seem to have in Your quit, And You have a 41 days head start, that is Magnificient, You have an A+ in my report so far, This Bachelor party sounds a little scarry to me, I do hope You have the willpower to say No, If You really MUST have to do this, I will tell You a secret that has sure helped me a few times, Cut some milk shake straws in half and suck on them, if the going gets rough, Take care, Smokless In Oklahoma :)
