I Need Sleep

Potchy . . . first of all, Congratulations!! I'm so happy you've quit smoking! Also happy to hear that lazer therapy worked well and you have no withdrawal symptoms. I am on Day 1 of my quit, but I actually stopped smoking late yesterday. I couldn't sleep . . . I knew this would happen, because I always smoke a cigarette before going to bed. Maybe try relaxation exercises? Tylenol P.M. may help, as someone suggested. I wish you well! :-) Kendall

Hi Potchy!! I am in basically the exact same situation you are! How fun eh? We quit on the same day, by the way. I have been having very low cravings, and those I have had I can deal with pretty well (So far, mind you!) However, I haven't had a decent nights sleep in over 3 weeks. I've heard it's just something we are going to have to deal with. I tried taking Tylenol PM, it did nothing for me. I am going in for a sleep study as recommended by my doctor. It might be worth talking to yours about as well. However, from everything I keep reading and I've heard, for the immidiate future I am just having to accept that I won't get a solid nights sleep. Anyways, if nothing else I hope that hearing someone else is right there with you might make things a little easier!! Hi Potchy, so happy to see you had the laser treatment done!! Good for you. I can't say enough good things about it. I have tried all the products out there and didn't do it. After the laser babm a non smoker. I did have to go back for a few more treatments. I smoked for close to 40 years and mentol is the worst I was told. Anyway, back to your problem. I too am experiencing problems sleeping. I spoke to my doctor and he told me to first take a nice hot bath and then take Tylenol P.M. about 1 to 2 hours before bedtime. After 10 days of not sleeping I was going bonkers. Now, I am sleeping and grateful. Using Tylenol PM is for temporary use read directions on box. Good luck and let us know how you're doing. :) babs My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 19 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 593 Amount Saved: $99.75 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 7 Mins: 23 Seconds: 14

Potchy, OTC Sleep aids are: Melatonin is a great sleep aid for some folks...I would look for the sublingual kind (under the tongue) because the hormone gets broken down quite a bit in the digestive tract when just swallowed...sublingually it is delivered directly to the blood system. Some others are: Kava Kava (if you can find it) Passion Flower, Valerian Root (I take only in capsule form cause its pretty nasty tasting otherwise, Tylenol PM. And please be sure to read the directions...even with the natural substances, more is not better! If it gets bad though, I would say a visit to the doctor is needed for something a bit more powerful. It's so important to get good sleep because our bodies are healing and busily sweeping our entire systems clean of toxins...Good rest helps this process greatly. Good luck! Hey potchy... from the "Sleepless in Tomah Wisconsin" Master... I've been there... hated it. The first few weeks was pure hell for me. I took warm baths before bed, cut back on the caffine as well, and all the other stuff people suggested. NOTHING WORKED...! It took time for me... sorry to say that to you. I couldn't, but maybe you should try sleeping aids. That may help. After the first 28 days things improved for me a lot. Good Luck, Ron Keep the Quit! Potchy, I too have the lack of sleep bug eyes. I finally went to Tylenol P.M. that I saw that someone else posted here. It has been a big help. I have also done the melatonin but I have done that in the evening, i would just take two of them never thought about taking one in the afternoon. Walgreens has them, walmart, drug stores etc. Lana ^i^ My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/9/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 115 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,314 Amount Saved: $575 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 10 Mins: 32 Seconds: 19

Are you using the patch? If so take it off when you sleep. If not, perhaps melatonin? It's a natural sleep aid that you can get at health stores like GNC or Rite Aid. Here's the deal though, don't take it at bed time, it wont work... Take it at lunch time. It wont make you sleepy then, but that's the time of day your body is making the stuff to get you ready to sleep and you'll give the process a boost. By bed time you should be tired and ready to sleep for a solid 8 hours. If all else fails, talk to your doc and tell them what's up - they can help. Good luck - stay strong. Thank You everyone for your suggestions. I am now on day 24 and still having problems with sleeping. I have bad allergies so I have been taking Benadryl prior to bedtime since I figured I could kill two birds with one stone (they make me really drowsy) unfortunately they also make me dream. So I think I will try the Tylenol. Thanks for all the great feedback. I am a non-smoker and I am proud and strong.
