This is sooooo hard

Hello all, Thank you everyone for your encouraging thoughts from my previous post. Well today is day 1 of my quit, and I snapped. I went 7 hours and then like a idiot I ran to the store and bought a pack and had half a cigarette. I could only finish half of it because of the incredible guilt I felt while smoking it. I feel like such a failure. At least I threw the pack out. I went through the program to the left and I still lasted only 7 hours. Man this is tough.

Hey Commit, You're right, not many people use the ssc messenger. I think someone once said that the reason is - with the group thing you get to see everyone's post at the same time.I too felt weird and alone on my quit day but I stayed on this site and read and worked the program and it helped alot. I also tried not to dwell on the fact the I was not smoking, instead I did deep breathing and enjoyed the clean air going into my lungs-it's relaxing too. Hang in there and get rid of those nasty, smelly cigarettes. Hi Commit, So sorry you're having such a hard time. Are you using any of the nicotine replacement tools? I found the gum to be helpful the first day-I haven't used it since but it took the edge off that day. Deep breathing has always helped me. Why not re-read your quit program? Sorry to hear about that! But hey, you got back on track right away, right? Be proud of that. This is hard. Hardest thing I've ever done. But the rewards far out weigh all of it. I decided on day 2 that smoking was not an option. I didnt care what I had to do, I would not allow myself to have one. I cried, screamed, slept, read posts, and ate my first 3 days away. But it helped. Promise yourself that smoking is not an option. Come here first next time. Post and wait for a response. Then see how you feel. Change your mindset. Dont dwell on not smoking. Pick yourself up and continue on your journey! We will be here for you. You can do it!!!!!!!!!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 23 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 710 Amount Saved: $75.21 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 21 Mins: 45 Seconds: 4

Hi commit, It is really hard, this quitting:) And it definitely can be done. For me, it has taken all of the tenacity I can muster to focus, to keep myself grounded, and I protect my Quit with everything in me. And it does work. It does, and it can for you too:) I keep saying it but it is so true: when you want to stop smoking more than you want to smoke, you are ready for a successful Quit journey. Hang in, hold tight and stay close to the site. Post and read. Read and post. Walk, water the grass, call a friend, cry (I still do that!) -watch a movie, yell, hug the dog, run around the block, walk down the street, get online, JUST DON'T SMOKE:) Sending lots of + energy and special blessings- Healer xox My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 23 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 831 Amount Saved: $55.2 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 2 Mins: 2 Seconds: 3

Hey commit2me, All is not lost. You just had a practice run. Now you need to get onto the real thing. You need to find more coping mechinisms to get you through that first 24 hours. What did you do before going to the store? Did you try waiting 5 minutes and doing deep breathing? How about sipping on ice water? Get up and do some exercise? Clean the bathroom? You can do this just put off that smoke for 30 minutes.. you have done that before. Get your mind on something else. Here is an idea. Go make a batch of biscuits. You can play in the dough as long as you like and your hands will be to yucky to handle a smoke. Keep moving, you will make it.
